West/East Health Professions Nexus recognizes summer interns. Last week five Etiwanda High School students were recognized for their 90-hour internship at Pomona Community-based Adult Services Center. This marks the second year that PCBAS has graciously opened their doors to high school students interested in a health professions career. The students shared the impact of this experience on their futures and expressed a deep appreciation for the various staff at PCBAS who took the time to answer
L-R: Lupe Feldhaus, McKenzie Smith, Gerardo Conchas, Ryan Hart, Jaileene Jimenez, Jordan Lee, Virgina Kelson, Michelle Dolven
their many questions and show them the skills needed to work with this special population. Students were also given a "disability" for a day to better understand (and appreciate) what the client's needs. This increased their empathy and further underscored their desire to serve in this capacity. Special thanks to Virginia Kelson, from Chaffey Joint USD, and Lupe Feldhaus from PCBAS for taking charge of this summer internship program!

Student assessment and proficiency exams for educators. Here is a new tool to add to your classroom arsenal which may help you to better assess student preparedness in math and science. It's called the National Health Science Exam or NCHSE. Students who pass get a certificate of proficiency. The exam is offered by Precision Exams who offer similar assessment tests in many areas of study.~
