Inland Coalition Annual Resource Day for Educators is August 28.
Teachers and educators of all levels look forward to this yearly event put on by the Inland Coalition. This year will be no different. The IC has prepared "tons" of useful toolkits, resources, lessons, portfolios and other materials for pathway teachers looking to gain an edge in their classrooms for the 2015/16 school year. This year registrants are required to register in teams of 2 or more pathway teachers. Although the Resource Day is FREE, this is an educator-only event tailed to health pathway teachers. Seats are filling up very fast - if you are planning to attend, please get together with another teacher and register ASAP.
Second training for YAHA (Youth Advocates for Health Access). Training continued this past Saturday for the youth advocates. Topics included Affordable Care Act, taught by Denis Vega, Med-icare and Medical, Safety in the community taught by Claudia Herrera and Cultural Competency. These topics
were especially "heavy" and the advocates ended the day on brain overload! All 55 of these wonderful volunteers are working hard to become informed before they go out into the community in September! ~

As California ages, will there be enough beds and services? This issue of health service capacity is tackled in recent reports by the California Healthcare Foundation newsletter - The California Almanac. With the aging of the baby boomer generation and gains in life expectancy, California's senior population is projected to more than double by 2040. Because seniors use more health care services than other age groups, there are concerns about the capacity of the health care system to accommodate their needs. To view these findings that examine supply and demand from different perspectives, read Beds for Boomers and California Hospitals: An Evolving Environment.~
Colton High School seeks mentors for health pathway students. (Yes, we know we mentioned it earlier, but it bears repeating!). The Colton High School Health Education And Learning (HEAL) Academy is seeking health professional mentors for the 2015-16 school year. There will be a special introductory event on Thursday, August 13 from 4 - 6 PM which will provide an overview of the mentoring program at HEAL. You will learn about the time commitment, receive mentoring materials and information on the mentees. The HEAL mentoring program is already supported by Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and the Inland Coalition - it just needs YOU! RSVP on EventBrite.~
