The Inland Coalition Revs Up Cool Summer Opps for Kids! Parents and teachers don't let your youth miss out on some fantastic opportunities to have a hands-on experience this summer.
Spoiler Alert - They are gonna love it!
YAHA program - Kids can become youth advocates for health care access in their communities by providing valuable information on health care coverage to people who need it most (and even receive a stipend). See below for more details.
IESHA program - We are opening up our youth health ambassador program to another 15 kids who will be trained to interact with waiting room patients and teach them about health using fun activities and games. See below for more details.

911 Emergency Bootcamp - A one week day camp for kids to get a taste of medical emergency careers though workshops, interactions, and tours (and possible internships). See below for more details.
Get Psyched 3-day workshop - An opportunity to learn and even experience mental health professions from those who do it every day. See below for more details.
A new nexus group forms in Moreno Valley. The new group will kick off with an information meeting on July 8. If you have colleagues or contacts in the Riverside/Moreno Valley area who work in healthcare (either on the job or in the educational system) we want them to know about this new group! The State of Higher Education in California - Black Report is being released today. California is home to the fifth largest Black population in the nation, and while our research has some good news - more Black adults today have a high school diploma and college degree than in the past there is also disheartening findings. Men In Nursing. The Healthcare Workforce Initiative (HWI) has created an informative and resourceful Magazine with a focus on Men in Nursing. We have an advance PDF version.
New video inspires future nurses. Breaking the Barriers is a great compilation of nursing stories put together by the California Institute for Nursing & Health Care that show how everyday people can overcome adversity to follow the career of their dreams. The nurses in this video will inspire you and show to our young people how you really can achieve if you have the desire and passion for a career in nursing.
Civility in the Workplace offered by HWI. Dr. Cindy Clark will present an engaging and interactive workshop describing the impact of incivility and practical strategies to foster a civil and professional environment. This workshop will be offered in several southern California cities - see flyer for dates and locations.

Move Forward program helps teens get HS diploma. This program assists young adults, ages 17-24, that have dropped out of high school in obtaining their GED or high school diploma at NO COST to them as well as providing them valuable life skills to help them succeed in life. The program will provide them with necessary soft skills to help them be successful on the job and an opportunity for paid work experience. ENROLLMENT PERIOD IS THIS WEEK:

YAHA recruiting deadline is June 15th. The mission of the Youth Advocates for Health Access (YAHA) project is to provide health access information in the community. YAHA will promote health access through a variety of methods: outreach, presentations, collaboration with other organizations and/or faculty and staff, and publications. If you are between the ages of 16 - 24 and have a desire to serve your community then consider applying for YAHA.
Application deadline is June 15th.

"Get Psyched" 3-day workshop takes place July 27-29. This workshop (see flyer) is for incoming Juniors and Seniors. You will get a better understanding of mental health and this unique field. Here's a sneak peak:
- Students will learn about topics such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.
- Students will participate in small groups and observe simulations of mental health services.
- Students will create their own career action plan including self-care.

Participating seniors will receive more information at the seminar about how to apply to Fall internships.

Community service hours with the American Heart Association. Here are the volunteer events coming up in June.
The Inland Empire Student Health Ambassador (aka IESHA) program is now open to 15 more students.  IESHA gives an opportunity for high school and community college students to receive first-hand training in community health topics. This 36 hour based program will prepare students to talk about health topics, and will place students in a preselected clinic location where they will be able to share information with the community in a waiting room. Students will receive training in topics such as HIPAA, clinic protocol, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dental health, etc. Click on the IESHA logo below to visit the website and apply.
Space is limited for the 911 Emergency Careers Boot Camp. It's easy to apply. Just go online and fill out the electronic application form. Camp dates are July 6 - 10 at Indian Springs High School. We've even included a flyer you can show your parents. |

The Inland Coalition was established in March 2007 to convene the health careers employers, educators, and community stakeholders in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and the Pomona Valley in a coordinated effort to address regional health workforce.
