We hope that you had a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend as we remembered those who served. With the short week ahead we just wanted to remind you (we don't know about you but our minds turn to mush after a long weekend) about our "hot" projects going on now:
Teachers get new tool to take to employers. The nexus groups have been working on a special brochure that will increase health pathway involvement from agencies and companies that play a part in healthcare delivery in the Inland Empire. The brochure is available here for download and on the Inland Coalition website (in .pub and .pdf formats). It briefly describes the mutual benefits of using health pathway students in their (the employers) business or agency and will hopefully increase employer awareness and support for pipeline programs throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
A new nexus group forms in Moreno Valley. The new group will kick off with an information meeting on July 8. If you have colleagues or contacts in the Riverside/Moreno Valley area who work in healthcare (either on the job or in the educational system) we want them to know about this new group! Please encourage them to come and learn about the Inland Coalition and the benefits to them and their work. You can start by simply forwarding this email to anyone who may be interested. To RSVP for the MV Nexus kickoff, click on the logo below.
Inland Coalition brings new opportunities to students.
- YAHA (Youth Advocates for Health Access)
- 911 Emergency Careers Bootcamp
- Get Psyched 3-day Workshop
See Student & Parent Section below for more information.
Student Ambassadors Begin at Kids Come First!
Congratulations to the first ambassadors who started at Kids Come First. Ambassadors worked with youth and parents to present prevention-related messages during clinic hours. Staff Marina Mejia, and Interns Mary Dallah and Vivian Agbobu supported the students. Ambassadors will soon begin hours at Community Health System Clinics at Bloomington and Moreno Valley.
Another cohort of Ambassadors for the CHSI Bloomington Clinic will be recruited soon.
Inland Coalition recognizes LuAnna Loza of Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) for their support of the 2015 Health Professions Conference. LuAnna then spoke about efforts to move the health pipeline forward and her passion for preparing tomorrow's workforce in the Inland Empire.

is now recruiting*. The mission of the Youth Advocates for Health Access (YAHA) project is to provide health access information in the community. YAHA will promote health access through a variety of methods: outreach, presentations, collaboration with other organizations and/or faculty and staff, and publications. If you are between the ages of 16 - 24 and have a desire to serve your community then consider applying for YAHA. Application deadline is June 15th. We know you have questions so click below for more info:
"Get Psyched" 3-day workshop takes place July 27-29. This workshop (see flyer) is for incoming Juniors and Seniors. You will get a better understanding of mental health and this unique field. Here's a sneak peak:

- Students will create their own career action plan including self-care.
-
Participating seniors will receive more information at the seminar about how to apply to Fall internships.
To apply, complete an online application. Don't wait - spots will fill up quick!
Community service hours with the American Heart Association. Here are the volunteer events coming up in May. There is also a special heart and stroke walk in the Fall - great way to jump start your community services hours for next school year!
