UPDATES
Health Career Corner a big hit!! The Inland Coalition participated in a STEM-a-plooza event at Valley College by hosting the Health Careers Corner. Interns Vivian Agbobu, Mary Dallah, and several of their friends facilitated the five stations that middle schoolers experienced. The Health Careers Corner was swamped with interest from eager young students wanting to try out the  various activities and learn more about a health career. What a great avenue to share resources. The Health Career Corner toolkit is available on the Inland Coalition website for teachers to utilize at their own career fair.

A diabetes training class answers demand for health education training in the I.E.
 This one-day course had a

full house this past Saturday as 35 attendees
received health education training on Type 2 diabetes. The class, in partnership with the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California (LCHC),
will enable the attendees to take this information back to their own communities. There was a
waiting list to get into the class and many have requested a repeat offering in the future.

IESHA health ambassadors get the 411 on diabetes health education. A room full of high school students took a Saturday morning to learn fun ways to present diabetes health education to waiting room patients. The 28 students in attendance were also presented with the ambassador uniform (a dark blue polo shirt with the IESHA logo).
The training was conducted by Dr. Sheryl L. Recinos, MAEd, a Family Medicine Resident from UC Riverside. She gave an overview of the of the subject and then had the ambassadors practice two simple activities that they will conduct with waiting patients - "Rethink Your Drink", which focuses on the amount of sugar in popular drinks and "Label Reading", which increases awareness of the nutritional content of packaged foods.

Moving forward students who have completed the training will be scheduled in one of the three clinics participating in the program. An IESHA staff member will mentor and supervise the ambassadors during their initial clinic visit. The students expressed their appreciation for such a unique opportunity and are highly motivated to get started.
