ANNOUNCEMENTS
Over 30 students and their parents attended an orientation for the Inland Empire Student Ambassador Project. These students will be trained to deliver health-related messages to people in the waiting rooms of the following clinics: Community Health systems, Moreno Valley and Bloomington locations and Kids Come First in Ontario.  After 12 hours of training by medical professionals, the students will spend 24 hours in 2-3 hour shifts at the clinic offering prevention messages on topics such as diabetes, hypertension, and personal hygiene. All of the students participating are connected to a health pathway program in the Inland Empire.

Interviewers: Jim Thomas, Carrie Roy, Jack Sherman, and Scott Clements.
Students from Palomares Academy of Health Sciences participated in Mock Interviews with members of local service clubs. The students were prepared for the interviews by teacher Rosalind Barba. An overwhelming number of students wanted more of this type of experience!

Focus on Equity: Communities of Color in a
Post-ACA California

Over 3.5 million Californians have enrolled in new coverage options since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, yet persistent health disparities remain among communities of color, immigrants, and Limited English Proficient populations. Join CPEHN and our partners for this conference, as we highlight opportunities to advance equity in 2015 and beyond. Registration is $25 for the General Public, $10 for CPEHN Network Members (discount code 4EQUITY). Topics will include:
  • Health for all.
  • Integration of behavioral health in primary care.
  • The importance of equity in measuring the quality of health care.
The convening will provide participants with the opportunity to:
  • Hear updates on key policy issues to advance equity for communities of color in health coverage.
  • Learn about key legislative proposals.
  • Discuss advocacy and mobilization efforts to advance policy.
