PARENTS OF CLASS OF 2016 SET A RECORD
Congratulations to the parents of the Class of 2016, who raised a record amount, $60,000, for the traditional Senior Class Gift to the Fund for Faculty!
 
BC TEACHER INDUCTED INTO ACADEMY OF TEACHERS
Congrats to Middle School Humanities Teacher Geoff Agnor, who is Berkeley Carroll's latest inductee into NYC's Academy for Teachers! The Academy brings New York's finest teachers together for master classes led by preeminent intellectuals and artists. Mr. Agnor was chosen to take a class with biographer David McCullough, who is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the U.S.' highest civilian award. STUDENT NAMED OUTSTANDING JAZZ SOLOIST
Seventh grader Charlie H. '21 has been named outstanding soloist at the Brooklyn Music School Jazz Festival and received a $500 scholarship. Saxophone great Jeff Newell came to BC to present the award to Charlie.
EXPERTS DISCUSS THEIR CAREERS AT BC SYMPOSIUM
Ninth though eleventh graders learned about different fields of work at BC's second annual Career Symposium. The keynote address was given by Dan Porter, a BC parent and head of digital at William Morris Endeavor, who spoke about his own unpredictable career and advised students on "why you shouldn't know what you want to be when you grow up."  Students then heard from nearly 30 BC parents, alumni and faculty on nine panels ranging from arts and fashion, media and entertainment, business, law, medicine and engineering. AFTER SCHOOL SHOWCASES SPRING SEASON
Students participated in nearly 30 BC After School programs and recently showcased what they've learned in activities like Brooklyn Beats, Gymstars, Duckling Swim, Chess, MIT Scratch and more. Photos. Play MIT Scratch student games.

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS PLOT "PI" & TURN IT INTO GIANT SKYLINE MURAL
Fifth and sixth grade students in the Math/Art Elective created a bar graph out of the digits of pi, which, due to how much it resembles a cityscape, they have dubbed the Pi Skyline.

7TH GRADERS VISIT & LEARN ABOUT EL BARRIO... IN SPANISH
As part of the immigration unit of their Spanish class, seventh graders took tours of East Harlem's El Barrio and learned about Puerto Rican culture and community with guides from El Museo del Barrio. The tours were conducted entirely in Spanish.  Each student interviewed an immigrant in Spanish to learn about their personal history and reasons for settling in New York. They presented the interviews to their peers this week. Read more

6TH GRADERS TALK TO SIERRA LEONE ABOUT THEIR WATER CRISIS
Sixth graders skyped with Hindo Kposowa, an educator from Bumpe, Sierra Leone, about the World Water Crisis They learned about how last year's Ebola epidemic affected his community, what its impact is now, and how the lack of access to water continues to affect his students. Kposowa thanked the students for caring and envisioning solutions to the water crisis. BC hopes to build a pen pal and Skyping program between his students and ours next year.
5th GRADERS BUILD MODELS OF BODY SYSTEMS
Fifth graders researched body systems, built models to demonstrate one aspect of a system and presented the models to their peers. More photos.  
ALUMNI REUNION ATTRACTS MORE THAN 100
More than 100 alumni, faculty and friends gathered at Lincoln Place on May 20 for Berkeley Carroll's annual Alumni ReunionRepresenting classes from 1960 to 2011, alumni enjoyed a program that included the opportunity to sit in on an Upper School class, record a story with the StoryCorps app and tour the new Marlene Clary Performance Space at 152 Sterling Pl. More photos.  Watch a clip from Upper School English Chair Erika Drezner's keynote address.

5TH GRADERS ARE WHIZ KIDS AT CODING
Our fifth graders' coding skills have attracted the attention of software execs and gamers alike. Two more games created by BC students have been featured on Hopscotch - "Hardest Geometry Dash in the World on iPhone" and "Star Wars Pixel Art," which were created by Jack R. '23, Jude T. '23, Graham M. '23, Avi Rao '23 and Nia C. '23 under the name JAN Studios. More photos
