BC's TECH INITIATIVE MAKES NATIONAL NEWS
Berkeley Carroll was in Mashable this week! The article talks about our iPad initiative as well as our Digital Essentials classes for 5th and 6th graders and how we're teaching the next generation of coders using Hopscotch, a visual programing language that lets kids build apps entirely on the iPhone and iPad. The reporter said observing our kids as they coded was a "riveting experience. "

Speaking of our STEAM initiative, congrats to Nathaniel S. '22. The computer game he coded and created (3F Drawing Pad DarkMode) has 67,000 plays and 3100 likes in just 3 weeks! It was featured on Hopscotch's front page.

BERKELEY CARROLL GARDENS
The fourth grade gardening elective built a garden for the 701 yard. After researching online examples of DIY hanging gardens, students proposed their own designs and then voted, ultimately choosing a design with planters made of recycled milk jugs hung from PVC tubing to hold water. They measured, cut and assembled the materials, then hung and planted the garden in time for some springtime color.

At Lincoln Place, the MS Science Squad elective and a volunteer gardening crew have been hard at work setting up our rooftop garden at 181 Lincoln. They started planting flowers, herbs and vegetables last week.
