BC STUDENTS HELP BUILD SCHOOL IN COSTA RICA
Seventh & eighth graders changed lives (including their own) on their recent community project for a local school in Costa Rica. In our 3 years of working with this community, students have worked on the physical structure in partnership with the local residents and fundraised ($8000 this year) to help build an auditorium and bathrooms, plus bring wi-fi, smartboards, and an updated electrical system to the school. SPEECH & DEBATE STUDENTS WIN MORE HONORS

BC SUPPORTS NATIONAL DAY OF SILENCE
Berkeley Carroll showed support for GLSEN's National Day of Silence, which supports LGBTQ students by calling attention to bullying and harassment in schools. Ms. Abramson's 4th grade class silently marched around the neighborhood holding signs condemning bullying, encouraging respect and explaining what they do to help the cause. Middle and Upper School students, faculty and staff wore awareness ribbons and/or took one-day vows of silence. More photos. 10-second video from the fourth grade march.
NEW YORK TIMES COLUMNIST SPEAKS TO 10TH GRADE
New York Times food columnist and cookbook author Melissa Clark spoke to 10th grade Health students on Wednesday about how to eat healthy food that still tastes good. "If food is not delicious, what's the point of eating it?" she asked.
1ST GRADERS TEACH MATH GAMES TO THEIR PARENTS
First graders taught their parents to play two math games - Los Numeros Bingo and The Trading Game. More photos.

Last Friday was a home run for BC athletics! Girls Varsity Softball beat Spence 10-7 while Varsity Baseball brought home an 8-1 win over Staten Island Academy, led by Sara T. '18 on the mound. Read more in Athletics Director Dick McGrath's Weekly Update.
SCIENCE RESEARCH STUDENTS PREP FINAL PRESENTATIONS
7TH GRADE MATH FAIR IS A SUCCESS
A steady stream of enthusiastic visitors - students, teachers and parents - came to the annual seventh grade Math Fair. Students offered insightful presentations on a rich variety of topics. Topics included Islamic art, binary numbers, pool and darts, and mazes. More photos.
ELEMENT PRIDE PARADE TAKES OVER LINCOLN PLACE
The seventh grade just hosted its first annual Element Pride Parade. To prep for the event, students did research and lab work to compile interesting facts about their element's history, uses, physical properties and chemical properties. Then they parlayed this information to create their element's costume and personality. At the parade, elements gathered in their periodic families and learned about their similarities and differences. Learn more. More photos.

THIS WEEK'S SENIOR SPEAKER
This week's senior speaker was Sophee W. She spoke about how humanity needs to learn to co-exist with the natural world if either is going to survive. Nature has been silenced, she said, it's time for us to start listening.
GRANDPARENTS DAY ATTRACTS RECORD NUMBER
The third and fourth grade chorus performed today at our biggest Grandparents Day ever with almost 400 grandparents attending. They sang "Give," which was written by Lower School Music Teacher Carolyn Sloan. Photos will be posted next week.
ALUMNI UPDATE: EMMA GOLDBERG LIU '10
Emma Goldberg Liu '10, who is working toward her master of music in vocal performance at NYU, will present her master's recital on Sunday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m. in the Marlene Clary Performance Space at 152 Sterling Place.
PREK USES "STEAM" TO CREATE THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD
Ms. Mulvaney's PreK students took on the role of architect, artist and builder to create their own neighborhood, called England, out of recyclable materials. More photos.
WORLD AFFAIRS BREAKFAST CLUB DISCUSSES ZIKA VIRUS
This week's hot topic at World Affairs Breakfast Club: The impact of the Zika virus. Students had lots of questions about the virus's impact in Brazil and potential impact in the US. The discussion was led by our experts, BC Nurse Nancy Rosenthal, BC parent Dr. Sarada Krishnamurthy, and BC biology teacher Essy Sefchovic. Read more on the Breakfast Club blog.
BC FACULTY LEADS WORKSHOP AT PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE
Upper School Psychologist Karen Kauffmann and former BC science teacher Gail Corneau led a workshop entitled "My Brain/Myself: An Interdisciplinary Adventure," at the Lincoln School Positive Psychology in the Classroom Conference. Former BC Upper School director Suzanne Fogarty is now head of the Lincoln School.
Kindergartners did an art printing project using small pieces of wood ,which they painted and stamped.
CLASS OF 2016 THANKS YOU FOR SUPPORT ON BLOOD DRIVE
Thanks to everyone who donated at the Class of 2016 blood drive! They collected nearly 20 pints of blood for New York Blood Center.
