BC SCORES MORE DEBATE MEDALS
BC came out on top in debate tournaments at Bed-Stuy's Achievement First High School and in Queens last weekend. The Upper School team took second place overall - our varsity and novice two-person public forum debate teams came in first - while two middle schoolers were undefeated in three rounds of competition. 300+ ALREADY SIGNED UP FOR THE STEAM FAIR 
More than 300 students & parents have already registered for our 2nd annual STEAM Fair, which takes place on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at our Lincoln Place campus. Featured activities include car building/racing with Nerdy Derby, Mario the Magician, and Sweetcycle which allows students to blend their own delicious smoothies by pedaling a bike... plus many other hands-on activities where students and families can explore, experiment discover, design and create! 4th GRADE MEETS BESTSELLING AUTHOR
Fourth graders were thrilled to meet Chris Grabenstein, author of the NY Times bestsellers "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" and "The Island of Dr. Libris." Lower School Librarian Briar Sauro said, "In a highly engaging and humorous presentation (Mr. Grabenstein used to do improv with Bruce Willis and Robin Williams), we learned the importance of rewriting, imagination and character development (show, don't tell!). PRE-K VISITS NEWLY DISCOVERED 122 FT. DINOSAUR
Our PreK students were among the first in the world to see the American Museum of Natural History's new titanosaur. (The exhibit was just installed this 2 weeks ago.) The species is so new that paleontologists haven't formally named it yet; it's believed to be one of the largest dinos ever discovered. How big is it? It grazes the gallery's 19-foot-high ceilings, and its neck and head extend into another room.

HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR SPEAKS TO 8TH GRADE
The 8th grade was privileged to hear Holocaust survivor (and BC grandparent) Sally Frishberg speak about how she and her family lived through WWII in Poland, hidden in a farmer's attic. She told students, "Hatred is a dreadful state of mind and it gets you nothing but hatred in return."

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT SPOTLIGHT: FOREIGN LANGUAGE 
Renowned language acquisition author and researcher Eileen Glisan, of Indiana University of Pennsylvania conducted a professional development workshop for language teachers from all three BC divisions. Teachers engaged in discussion and hands-on practice of high-leverage teaching strategies that, research has shown, facilitate second language acquisition. Read more
