2 BC TEACHERS HONORED FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE
Congrats to Upper School History Chair Lorne Swarthout and Associate Athletic Director Carmine Giovino, who were recently inducted as Fellows of The Academy for Teachers. The Academy brings New York's finest teachers together with leading minds and creative talents for inspiring master classes held in the city's great institutions. Teachers spend a day learning from an expert and other master educators. 

Previous inductees include Upper School English Chair Erika Drezner, Theater Chair Justin Indovina, Middle School World Language Chair Elizabeth Luscombe and Middle/Upper School Arts Director Peter Holsberg. Read more.


JUILLIARD & OTHER MUSICIANS VISIT 4TH GRADE
Fourth graders got a taste of the orchestra this morning with instrumentalists from The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, New York Youth Symphony and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in preparation for their trip to the New York Philharmonic later this month! They listened to each instrument and learned about its history and how it works. Lower School Music Teacher Carolyn Sloan writes: "In Fourth Grade, we spend about three months studying the orchestra, its instruments and key pieces in orchestral repertoire.  The students also conduct research on one orchestral instrument of their choice and then embed their research in a creative project." Read moreMore photos and video

ENGINEERING STUDENTS BUILD BRIDGES
Upper School Engineering students designed and built bridges out of spaghetti! They presented their creations on Thursday.
 

WORLD AFFAIRS BREAKFAST CLUB: CLIMATE WARMING 
BC parent Adam Wolfensohn returned to Breakfast Club almost exactly one year after he first talked about the steps that the U.S. and China were making toward a new global climate agreement. He reported, "What happened in Paris last month is the most hopeful news on climate change since the Kyoto Protocol was signed (but never ratified) 23 years ago." 190 countries have committed to changes that will reduce the production of greenhouse gases. "But," Nadine K. '16 asked, "without real penalties, what's to keep countries honest?"  Read more.

LOWER SCHOOL FACULTY DOES BORDER CROSSERS WORKSHOP
Lower School faculty and staff discussed racism in a workshop with Border Crossers this week. Border Crossers trains and equips educators to be leaders of racial justice in their schools and communities.
