ANALYZING SHAKESPEARE FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES
10th graders in three different English classes, Women on the Edge, Will's World and Youth in Literature: Teenage Riot, have been reading Shakespeare's "Hamlet." The classes recently got together to discuss the play from multiple points of view. Students performed skits, led activities and participated in small group discussions to explore the many contrasting facets of Shakespeare's most famous play.  More photos.

BC MAKES NATIONAL & LOCAL NEWS
Berkeley Carroll has been highlighted in lots of press about StoryCorps' successful Great Thanksgiving Listen which, this past weekend, captured 37,000 interviews that will be stored for posterity in the U.S. Library of Congress. Many of the stories featured Garrett C. '16 who interviewed his grandmother for the project and teacher Lauren Links as well as her U.S. History Since 1945 class. BC ALUM HONORED FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE
Congrats to Patricia Pe�a Carty '02, who is one of only seven NYC teachers to be honored with a Sloan Award for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics by the Fund for the City of New York! Patricia teaches biology and genetics at University Heights High School in the Bronx. She will receive $5,000, plus $2,500 to go toward the math and science programs at University Heights.  Read the
1ST GRADERS GIVE PRESENTATION ON GLOBAL READ ALOUD
First graders taught the rest of the Lower School what they learned during this year's Global Read Aloud, focused on author Amy Krouse Rosenthal, at an assembly.  Librarian Kendra Barbary discussed their partnership with Gilbert Primary School in Gilbert, S.C. and the students presented examples of their work, such as an animated drawing made using the app Draw and Tell. Winter season is off to a fast start and next week is extraordinarily busy with 19 contests spread among our Upper and Middle School teams - almost all of our varsity, JV and 7/8 squads will compete. BARNARD PROFESSOR SPEAKS AT UPPER SCHOOL
James Basker, a professor of literary history at Barnard College and president of the The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, spoke with American Studies students about how anti-slavery literature made real social and political change. They discussed (and read) the work of writers and poets including Robert Southey, Phyllis Wheatley and David Walker. "Poets are visionaries and they're not always subordinate to the visions of their times," he said.


BC PROVIDES COATS TO 50 LOCAL FAMILIES
The Parent Association's annual coat drive has provided real help to our Brookyn community! On the first day of distribution at P.S. 503's Evenstart Family Support Center, 75% of the donated coats were given to 50 families. The remaining coats will be given to families unable to attend the first event. Thanks to all who donated and volunteered!


4TH GRADERS BUILD REPLICA OF VILLAGE
Students in 4F build a replica of a Haudenosaunee village. Inspired by a recent trip to the American Museum of Natural History, all fourth grade classes are working on their own exhibits.

UPPER SCHOOL STUDENTS VISIT LAB & EXTRACT DNA
Students in the Intro to Science Research and Design course visited the DNA Learning Center where they extracted mitochondrial DNA using a polymerase chain reaction before sending the samples to get sequenced.  More photos.

Lower, Middle and Upper School students volunteered at the Brooklyn Friends School Meetinghouse on Nov. 29! They set tables, sorted canned goods and served a meal to those in need. THANKSGIVING ASSEMBLY RECAP
The entire BC community came together for the annual Thanksgiving Assembly. Head of School Bob Vitalo, Naiyah J. '24, Emma P. '20, Avery S. '17 and Upper School Math Teacher Amanda Finigan addressed students, faculty and staff. Plus, the Middle School Choir, Fourth Grade Chorus, Upper School Choir and Third Grade chorus performed.
