3 STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Three BC freshmen, Lukas H., Matthew J., and Graham S., were selected to participate in the prestigious Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra. They will be working with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Band (directed by Wynton Marsalis) throughout the year and presenting concerts at the JALC Concert Hall at The Time Warner Center in Manhattan. Congratulations to these young musicians! 
 
 
CAROLYN SLOAN PUBLISHES NEW BOOK
Congrats to Lower School Music Teacher Carolyn Sloan on her new book, "Welcome to the Symphony," which is dedicated in part to her students and teaches children about the world of classical music by having them attend a concert through the pages of the book! Two Brooklyn events to launch the release will feature a dramatization of the book narrated by puppets (Greenlight Bookstore at Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. and BookCourt at Nov. 7 at 11 a.m.)  At BookCourt, a full chamber orchestra will also play the entire first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony! ATHLETICS
It's been an exciting week! Boys Varsity Soccer notched an important win over Packer (2-1) as the team looks to position itself for the ACIS playoffs. Girls Varsity Soccer, despite coping with a flurry of injuries, continued its winning ways with a victory over Saint Ann's (1-0).Girls 7/8 Volleyball defeated Trevor Day 2-0, racking up its first home victory. UPPER SCHOOL STUDENTS PRIME FOR MATH LEAGUE CONTEST
On your mark, get set, math! Upper schoolers took the first of six Math League contests Tuesday afternoon. The contests include a mix of algebra, geometry and pre-calculus.

Director of Community and Inclusion Brandie Melendez spoke this morning as a panelist on behalf of BC at Austin & Co., Inc.'s fall seminar: Accommodating Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Students in the K-12 School Environment.


HELEN BIRNEY CONDUCTS WORKSHOP AT EDUCATION CONFERENCE 
Lower School Head Teacher Helen Birney (left above) and former Lower School Curriculum Coordinator Lisa Oberstein ran a workshop last weekend called "Looking Out, Looking In: Teaching About Fairness and Equity Through Change Makers and Media Literacy" at the  Progressive Education Network Conference. 

 
 
GOLF OUTING RAISES $100K FOR BERKELEY CARROLL
An all-time high of 90 players enjoyed a great day of golf and raised more than $100,000 for Berkeley Carroll at our 9th Annual Golf Outing this week at The Saint Andrew's Golf Club. Many thanks to our terrific Golf Committee, who made the success of this day possible.  More photos.
