Aya talked about her relationship with Islam and how it shapes the three things she uses to define herself. Emma spoke about her relationship with her step-grandmother, who is having difficulty accepting that she has Alzheimer's. Read more.

Next up were (right photo: left to right) Briyana Martin, Emma Bessire and Itiah Pierce. Briyana discussed how girls often have a greater sense of caution than boys and why that might be.  Emma talked about her love of running, explaining that although it is difficult, with the pain comes a sense of pride and a feeling of invincibility. Itiah spoke about how she is a dreamer why it can be hard, but ultimately beneficial.  Read more.

LOWER SCHOOL HONORS "FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE FOR ALL"

Lower Schoolers honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the many other "changemakers" who have fought - and still fight today - for equality at Monday's "Fairness and Justice for All" assembly! Students showed their peers, parents and faculty/staff what they've learned about civil rights through song, dance, skits and even a video.

"We want the children to know that our Civil Rights Movement was an important milestone in paving the way for greater awareness of the need to change society to be more fair - and that the work isn't over," Lower School Director Elise Goldman wrote. More photos.

Students got a visual lesson in Berkeley Carroll history with Director of Development Pam Cunningham. They talked about changes the school has undergone over the years, such as the classes students take (see a photo from a hat making class from years ago here);  the clothes students wear; how the school was originally only for girls; and the fact that we still use the original building today.  Read more.
