JUNE 2015

Greetings, artists and arts supporters!

The Austin Art in Public Places program is turning 30 in September and we are celebrating all year long! Watch this newsletter for all the happenings.

This newsletter will continue to let you know about the latest activities of AIPP as well as upcoming opportunities!

Three new sculptures installed on 3rd Street!
Three new sculptures making up part of Pedestrian Geometries, by Erin Curtis, were installed in early June along 3rd Street between Congress Avenue and Trinity Street.

A total of 25 sculptures will be installed through this commission, located along eight blocks of 3rd Street in downtown Austin. Five sculptures are now installed along 3rd Street; the remaining 20 sculptures will be installed over the next year and a half.

Using more than 30 unique colors of glazed brick, the sculptures appear like bright fragments of historical architecture growing from the sidewalk, and suggest textiles and paintings with their complex and varied patterned surfaces.

The colors and forms were inspired by a variety of sources including Navajo rugs, Islamic textiles, and the natural geography of Texas. This work was developed with project partner Nicole Blair.
