September 9: Opening Ceremony for Adult Activity Center


It's finally here: The Adult Activity Center is hosting a Grand Opening Ceremony on Friday, September 9, 10 a.m. at 2 Andalusia Avenue, across from The Palace Coral Gables. Join us for the official ceremony to inaugurate this new City facility where citizens, 50 years of age and older, can enjoy many special events, programs, lectures, classes and social services. The City of Coral Gables is doing its part to keep local residents safe and informed. Working with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Center for Disease Control, the City is urging all residents to take serious precautions against the mosquito-transmitted virus. The City of Coral Gables offers Wi-Fi access points to facilitate Internet access to visitors in various City buildings, landmarks, parks and public areas. This technology provides convenient access to the City's online services and information. Giralda streetscape
Beautification Begins on Giralda Avenue
 
As part of the Miracle Mile and Giralda Avenue Streetscape Project, roadway reconstruction and drainage work has begun on Giralda Avenue, from Ponce de Leon Boulevard to Galiano Street. All work will be done on weekdays from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. No night or weekend work is anticipated. The road is closed to vehicular traffic, but sidewalks will remain open to all local businesses. Centralized valet parking is only $5 per day. Parking at nearby City garages is only $1 per hour. For more Streetscape Project updates, click here.

Museum Celebrates Centennial of National Park Service


Come celebrate the National Park Service's 100th birthday with free admission, cake, and an opportunity to meet park rangers from all four of our National Parks in South Florida: Everglades, Cypress, Biscayne and Dry Tortugas National Parks and Big Cypress National Preserve. The Coral Gables Museum is hosting a National Park Service 100th Birthday Bash on Thursday, August 25, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The event coincides with the Museum's exhibit "This Land is Your Land: A Second Century for America's National Parks." The Coral Gables Branch Library, located at 3443 Segovia Street, is a resource for neighbors to read, study, use the public computers or access free Wi-Fi. It has a vast range of special programs such as storytimes, teen gaming, book clubs, cultural performances, and educational and learning workshops, plus a once-a-month service to renew a driver's license or vehicle registration. It is also the home of a beautiful 15 ft. ceramic tile mural by artist Kay Pancoast, and has the original Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls on display. How Science Contributes to Historic Preservation


The City of Coral Gables, the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Museum are presenting the free lecture "Changing Directions: How Science is contributing to cultural heritage studies and preservation from the Maya region to Miami - from Cuba to the Netherlands." The event takes place on Tuesday, August 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue. Traffic:
FDOT began a construction project along US1 from Santona Street to Granada Boulevard and at the intersection of Grand Avenue. This project will take four months to complete. There will be periodic lane closures.


FDOT is working on roadway construction of State Road 90/S.W. 8 Street from SW 39 Avenue to east of SW 34 Avenue and at the intersection of LeJeune Road. The project commenced in May and will take about five months to complete. Lane closures will occur only during non-peak hours on nights and weekends. Allow extra time to reach your destination. Obey all posted signs and speed limits.
