New Public Safety Strategies Are Taking Shape
Coral Gables is conducting an aggressive recruitment effort for certified and non-certified police officers, while still maintaining high personnel standards. A Police Recruitment Open House took place on June 4, 2016, at the Police Station to guide prospective applicants through the hiring process. In 2015, the City of Coral Gables experienced a 15% reduction in crime compared to the previous year, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Uniform Crime Report (UCR). Much of this success is the result of community involvement, as well as initiatives implemented by the City of Coral Gables Public Safety Team. If you live or work in the City of Coral Gables, you have three opportunities to participate in the Transportation Plan Kick-Off Meetings on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the Coral Gables Branch Library located at 3443 Segovia Street. Five New Properties Now Owned by Citizens of Coral Gables
Congratulations, citizens of Coral Gables! You are now the proud owners of five new properties purchased by the City to enhance your neighborhoods' quality of life. Last week, the City of Coral Gables closed on the following properties: 807 Catalonia Avenue; 241 Sarto Avenue; 937-939 Majorca Avenue; 6540 Marlin Drive and 1047 Venetia Avenue. Dispose of Unwanted Medications at 2801 Salzedo
The City of Coral Gables is the first municipality in Miami-Dade County to partner with Covanta Dade Renewable Energy to keep prescription drugs off the street and dispose of them in an environmentally safe manner. A drop-off bin has been installed at the lobby of the Coral Gables Police Department located at 2801 Salzedo Street. Individuals can drop off their expired or unwanted prescription drugs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The pharmaceuticals collected will be incinerated for safe destruction. Read more...

The Ponce Society of Young Professionals volunteered their time and efforts to an art mural beautification project at Ponce De Leon Middle School. CG Residents Advocate for Alzheimer's Awareness
This June is Alzheimer's Awareness Month in Coral Gables − and resident Leslie Rivera knows the devastation of Alzheimer's all too well. She was a full-time caregiver for her mother and watched as the disease took effect on her grandmother as well. Leslie does not want anyone else to suffer from the hardships of this disease so she is using her voice to advocate in the fight against Alzheimer's throughout Miami Dade County, Florida and the nation. Traffic: FDOT is working on roadway construction of State Road 90/S.W. 8 Street from SW 39 Avenue to east of NW 34 Avenue and at the intersection of LeJeune Road. The project commenced in May and will take about five months to complete. Lane closures will occur only during non-peak hours on nights and weekends. Allow extra time to reach your destination. Obey all posted signs and speed limits.
