City Passes New Green Building Ordinance

The City of Coral Gables passed a Green Building Ordinance in April that requires buildings in Coral Gables to be built according to the to the latest applicable version of the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification or equivalent. This applies to all new City buildings, buildings being constructed on City of Coral Gables property, and all buildings over 20,000 square feet which are not owned by the City of Coral Gables. Are You Ready for Hurricane Season?

Today is the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, which lasts until November 30. Remember that if a storm hits the area, you must be prepared to be on your own for the first 72 hours. During this time, City crews will be very busy trying to clear primary roads and restoring order for the first three days after a storm hits. Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Available to the Public

Two dual-port Electrical Vehicle (level 3) charging stations are up and running in the City Hall's parking lot. They are part of the City's Green Fleet program, made up of 20 gas-free electric vehicles powered by batteries. The new charging stations at the parking lot of 405 Biltmore Way are available for the public's use and are capable of recharging electric vehicles up to 70% of its power in about 30 minutes. Businesses are Open on Giralda Avenue

The City of Coral Gables is building beautiful as part of the Miracle Mile and Giralda Avenue Streetscape Project. The installation of water main pipes, fire hydrants, and other water meter work is being done by Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department on Giralda Avenue. The road will be closed to vehicular traffic during the day and reopened daily at the end of each work day. As a reminder, all shops on Giralda Avenue and surrounding streets are open for business. For your convenience, centralized valet parking is available for $5 per day. Support your local shops by using their services while the street renovation is underway. Read more...

Coral Gables Restaurant Week Starts June 6

The Business Improvement District (BID) of Coral Gables brings back its signature event that attracts excitement every year amongst locals, tourists and foodies alike: Coral Gables Restaurant Week. For three whole weeks, from June 6 to June 26, 2016, everyone has the opportunity to taste more than 40 of Coral Gables' best fine-dining restaurants with prix-fixe menus at a discounted rate.
 
To kick off the three-week event, a special "Taste of the Gables" event will be held Thursday, June 2, 2016, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Westin Colonnade Hotel. Come sample the tastes from 20 restaurants participating in Coral Gables Restaurant Week and vote for your favorite dish. Read more...

FDOT Public Hearing on June 7

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six will install a "no left turn" sign this summer at the intersection of LeJeune Road and Aragon Avenue. The sign will prohibit northbound left turns from LeJeune Road onto Aragon Avenue to improve driver safety. A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at the War Memorial Youth Center, 405 University Drive. The hearing will begin as an open house with a formal presentation starting at 6:30 p.m. Graphic displays will be shown during the hearing and FDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project. Traffic:
FDOT is working on roadway construction of State Road 90/S.W. 8 Street from SW 39 Avenue to east of NW 34 Avenue and at the intersection of LeJeune Road. The project commenced in May and will take about five months to complete. Lane closures will occur only during non-peak hours on nights and weekends. Allow extra time to reach your destination. Obey all posted signs and speed limits.

June 1-9: The Bank United Center located at the University of Miami will be hosting several local high school graduations daily. Expect traffic delays around the area of Ponce De Leon Boulevard and on US1.  Please seek alternate routes.
