Green Fleet Introduced in Honor of Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, the City of Coral Gables introduced its new Green Fleet, 20 gas-free electric Nissan Leaf vehicles powered by batteries. These electric vehicles will not use a single drop of gas, which means no tailpipe, no fumes, and zero emissions into the environment. Soon the public will see the Green Fleet on our roads being used by Parking Enforcement and other City departments for administrative use. Read more...

With a Groundbreaking Ceremony, the City of Coral Gables officially started the construction of Miracle Mile and Giralda Avenue Streetscape Project with a Groundbreaking Ceremony. City officials, project partners, and local merchants were present last week to inaugurate this important and ambitious project which will transform Miracle Mile and Giralda Avenue into a pedestrian friendly experience with garden areas, outdoor dining, improved lighting, and public art. Police Memorial
Remembering the Life & Legacy of Fallen Officers

Downtown Coral Gables will hear the boom of a 21-gun salute in remembrance of nine police officers who died in the line of duty while protecting the community. A Police Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, May 5, 2016, 4 p.m., at Merrick Park, across from City Hall. The public is invited to attend. Read more...

Pardon Our Dust!

Major renovations are underway to the Museum Parking Garage #2 (220 Aragon) and Merrick Place Parking Garage #6 (51 Aragon). The Garages will remain open while they are being renovated. The work will begin in the Merrick Place Parking Garage and once that facility is near completion, the contractor will move to the Museum Parking Garage. Read more...

Gables Public Schools Receive Top Grading

All Coral Gables Public Schools received a good report card this year, according to the school performance grades released by the Florida Department of Education. The 2014-2015 school performance grades were computed using student results from a combination of the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) in reading, math and writing, and the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test 2.0 in science, as well as the Florida end-of-course assessments. Read more...

Coral Gables Collects 8,000 Pounds of Electronics

The City of Coral Gables hosted a successful electronic recycling event last month, collecting almost 8,000 pounds of electronics. The event was organized by the City's Sustainability Advisory Board, with support from the Public Works Department and STS Electronic Recycling. To date, the City has collected more than 18,000 pounds of electronic waste in two recycling events held at the parking lot of City Hall. Read more...

Segovia Traffic Circles Sculptures Are Being Assembled

The two sculptures resembling giant passion flowers that will grace the Segovia Traffic Circles at Coral Way and Biltmore Way are in the process of being created.  A recent site visit to the fabricator revealed that there are more than 4,000 pieces of metal being assembled. In order to accommodate specialized engineering and custom materials, a new estimated completion date for the sculptures' installation is mid-June.  Read more...

Cleaning Up Matheson Hammock Park
 
Thanks to the hard work of many local volunteers and City employees, the shores of Matheson Hammock Park in Coral Gables got a good cleaning as part of the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day last month. The event is organized every year by Miami-Dade County. Participating this year were environmentally conscious City staff and students from the Coral Gables Police Explorers and the Coral Gables Police Athletic League (PAL). The event raises awareness about litter prevention and the importance of protecting our shoreline.
