The Biltmore Hotel was built in the 1920s with its monumental tower inspired by the Giralda of Seville. Designed by Schultze & Weaver, it was not the only one to be built in Miami with a Giralda tower. The Miami News Tower - known today as the Freedom Tower - was built on Biscayne Boulevard, followed the same model, and utilized the same architects. In addition, Schultze & Weaver designed the Roney Plaza on Miami Beach after the Biltmore and News Tower. It too had a Giralda tower. With an original budget of approximately $1 million, the Biltmore Hotel's final construction cost was $10 million. Originally named the Miami-Biltmore Hotel, it opened its door to the public in January 1926.
