Restoring What Matters To Coral Gables

 

In 2010, a grassroots effort raised $70,000 to supplement City funding to repair the Alhambra Water Tower. Built in 1924, the tower was designed by H. George Fink to resemble a Moorish lighthouse. Now the Dade Heritage Trust has selected this project as an Outstanding Achievement in the restoration of a local historic resource. Read more.

The Venetian Pool is an aquatic facility unlike any other in the country and one of the safest places to take a swim. The pool's lifeguard staff just scored in the top 10 percent in aquatic safety excellence receiving the Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award. Read more.

As part of the City's 90th Anniversary celebration, a never-before-seen collection of paintings and drawings by renowned artist Richard Merrick will be auctioned on May 30. Richard was the younger brother of Coral Gables City founder George Merrick.  Proceeds will benefit the Coral Gables Museum.

The City of Coral Gables Police Explorers and the Police Athletic League (PAL) got their hands dirty at the recent Annual Baynanza. They helped pick up garbage along the shores and roadways of Matheson Hammock Park, raising awareness about litter prevention and the importance of protecting our environment.
