Summer Blockbusters...1975
Jaws, Monty Python and the Holy Grail

"You're gonna need a bigger boat!" The line brilliantly ad-libbed by Roy Scheider still sends shivers down my spine. It's only appropriate that this week kicks off Shark Week, and we should feature the top-grossing film of 1975, Jaws. Did you know that the film's original budget, a mere $3.5M, was nearly tripled to $9M when all was said and done? Originally slated for a 55 day shoot, filming went 104 days longer. The result? A gross of $471M and an unnumbered amount of cases of thalassophobia! Not to mention the most fear inflicted by two musical notes...EVER! (Thank you John Williams.)

On the flip side, across the pond, a group of talented British actors hit their stride with the release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and many of us are still laughing today! Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Girriam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin attracted big name investors like Led Zeppelin, Genesis and Pink Floyd to bring their genius to the big screen. The parody of the mythical quest of King Arthur was again resurrected in 2005 with Eric Idle's stage production, Spamalot.
