Teal colored ribbons and blue pinwheels can be found all around the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay this month. These symbols remind us that April is Sexual Violence Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention month. This year, the Crisis Center is recognizing both of these important events because, all too often, sexual violence and child abuse occur together.
Did yo u know every 107 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted (RAINN.org)? Did you know that 20.7% of reported child abuse cases were sexual abuse (childhelp.org)? Can you imagine a child experiencing these horrific events and then never receiving the help or support to mend and heal? In Her Own Words: Lisa's Story

Angela Claudio Torres, a Therapist in Corbett Trauma Center, helped Lisa after she was sexually assaulted

Lisa was sexually assaulted by three men when she was in another country. She turned to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay for help when she learned she would need to go back to testify against her assailants.
"In June of 2015, I received an e-mail from my lawyer informing me that my trial date had been set. I had not heard from my lawyer in over a year, so you can imagine my surprise. The timing could not have been worse. I had recently moved back to the USA and was finally getting back on my feet. Memories of the rape and the trauma were always with me and I was managing pretty well, but knowing that I would soon be facing my rapists in court caused my anxiety level to skyrocket. I was fearful all the time, had nightmares every night and could not stop crying. The thought of being in the same room with the three men who attempted to destroy my life was chipping away at my sanity. I felt overwhelmed and needed help"...(READ MORE)

Crisis Center Advocate Commended by Florida Attorney General

The Crisis Center's Lead Victim Advocate, Amanda Brennan, was honored with a 2016 Distinguished Victim Service Award by Florida Attorney General, Pam Bondi this month. The award is presented to victim advocates and law enforcement officers for their outstanding work assisting victims of crime. The Attorney General presented the awards at a ceremony commemorating National Crime Victims' Rights Week at the Florida State Capitol. (READ MORE)

Spread the Word about Take Back The Night (April 30th)!
Take Back the Night is an assembly of survivors of violence, and those who are interested in building strength and awareness to eradicate the epidemic of sexual and domestic violence. This year Take Back The Night will be at North Straub Park in St. Petersburg on Saturday, April 30th. The event starts at 5pm. Attendees will experience a powerful evening consisting of live music, a resource fair, empowerment march, candlelight vigil, and a survivor speak-out.

Remember the Crisis Center on Give Day Tampa Bay (May 3rd)
Give Day Tamp  a Bay is a local, 24-hour online charity event that is organized by the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. The goal of the event is to increase philanthropy in the Tampa Bay area and raise awareness of the amazing work local nonprofits do in the community.
Your support on Give Day allows the Crisis Center to provide help, hope, and healing to people in our community. Whether it's sexual assault, thoughts of suicide, or financial distress, the Crisis Center is there when crisis strikes.

FREE Continuing Education Credits
Join us for an Estate and Tax Planning Seminar to earn your continuing education credits (3 credit hours). The course will be at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 7:45 AM to 12:15 PM and will provide an opportunity to network with your peers while receiving up-to-date information in your field.
