Oh MY..... If it wasn't for bad luck, we wouldn't have any luck at all! We have no phones. We are sure a fence company who was here today cut our phone lines. It is Friday evening and the 4th of July is Monday. No phones until at least Tuesday that is IF we can get through to the phone company. I gave Larry the job of using his cell phone to make the dreaded call. It went like this: Press 1 for English..... 2 for India, please hold your call is important to us, wait while we access your account, if there is a problem with the lines in your home you will be charged, leave a number where our technician can call you back...... CLICK. Larry: "Son of a B, I have tried four times, it is your turn!"   CRAP!
Speaking of crap (LOL). Last night our dogs got special treats. This morning their room smelled like a sewer. Do you know what it is like to clean up after two Dachshunds, two Mastiffs, a German Shepherd and a 170 pound Great Pyrenees? The washing machine is still running!
This afternoon UPS delivered two cases of Clorox and a huge box of paper towels. I'm pretty sure I know who sent them. Right, Melinda? How would you know I had such a mess? BLESS YOUR HEART.
Wouldn't it be NICE if our phones never rang again with people wanting our help!  Daily calls come in. One of the latest calls was from a shelter that just took in 300 (YES, 300) kittens in the last 10 days with more coming in daily. <sigh>
Last week Pet Pals took in a Mastiff who we have named Chucky. Monday he was taken to our veterinarians for blood tests. He is scary skinny. He has an infection and liver problems. Chucky is on medicines and is SO appreciative he screams non-stop. He also has sever separation anxiety. Chucky has gone through three gates and destroyed a nice large wire crate. Poor Chucky is so upset when he cannot see you, that he runs in circles and slobbers, big time. Oh well :-)

Hope you all have a Happy 4th of July. We will be enjoying our quiet time with no phones! Oh yea, if you need to call us, my cell phone number is 307-534-5878. Keep in mind, if you call, the ring of the cell phone sends two dogs into shock and they will need Melatonin!

HEAT.....

10 items:

Most of us know that sugar free gum or anything else containing XYLITOL is dangerous.
Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs. Even small amounts of xylitol can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), seizures, liver failure or even death in dogs.

CHECK labels on ALL food..... Xylitol is now being put in peanut butter. Those of us using peanut butter to hide pills in to get our dogs to take them, BEWARE.   http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/xylitol-toxicity-in-dogs/4340

Keep the Corn Cobs Away - What is a backyard barbecue without a good ol' corn on the cob, lightly charred to perfection, sprinkled with salt, and slathered with butter? Well, for one, it'd be a way safer barbecue - considering that if a dog, cat, or any such pet somehow ingests corn cob material, it can cause serious health problems. If the piece of corn cob gets lodged in the intestine, stomach, colon, or any other area, there could be a bowel obstruction that needs to be treated by a vet. Not to mention, if the cob is lodged in the pet's esophagus, then it could possibly choke to death. Corn cobs are extremely dangerous because they are completely indigestible (kind of like the corn that comes off of them) and they are also very rough in texture. However, sometimes, the animal can strike some good luck and pass the cob (poop it out), but you shouldn't bank on that! Avoid the whole situation altogether by either NOT having corn on the cob at the cookout (sad, I know), OR just being careful that NO ONE leaves a corn cob unattended. Also make sure that you dispose of any and ALL corn cobs in a receptacle that your pet cannot get into.
These are just a few summertime hazards to look out for, although I am sure there are plenty more! If you have any stories, experiences, or advice to share related to summer dangers, please comment and let us know. We'd love to add it to the list so that future readers can keep their pets safe in the upcoming summer months. Arm yourself with knowledge, there is no such thing as being too safe! Happy summer, and enjoy the beautiful weather!
