Personal Account of Colorado Civil Union Act SB11 Being Passed in Colorado
|
|---|
As I approached the Capitol today my stomach filled with butterflies, goose bumps crawled up my arms, and my eyes welled up. I return yet again to the place where so many times before I left broken hearted with my head hung low, feeling like a second class citizen. So with optimism on this chilly March morning, I took a deep breath and walked up the snow covered path. I reassured myself in this breath that today
things will be different.
Dusting my snow covered coat off I stepped into this historic building, passing through security, walking up the grand staircase to the 3rd floor. COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:
Colorado Gets Civil-ized! - Mar. 27
|
|---|
Civil Unions are on the path to implementation and you probably want to know what that will mean for you before you pop the question to your current amour. Don't worry, we can help with that. On March 27 at 5:30 come to the Abrams Lounge, 3rd floor of the Center for Community on CU-Boulder Campus for a "best educated guess" on how this will implemented and some of the potential implications. We are excited to have Larry Hoyt, a local attorney who has been in private practice and in government for over 35 years and Jodi Martin founding member of Martin Law Office LLC, and a practicing attorney for over 15 years presenting with their combined 50 years of legal expertise. This is the first in a series of panels to help Boulder County LGBTQ and Allied people navigate the intricacies around civil unions in Colorado and marriage equality across the country. Larry Hoyt and Jodi Martin will be thoroughly examining the law including what this means for couples looking to enter into a civil union as well as the differences between state-sanctioned marriage and state-sanctioned civil unions. The second panel will be in April and will cover the federal marriage challenge in the United States Supreme Court. Sign up for the Out Boulder eNewsletter to be kept current on this and other future presentations.
