Greetings! ,

I hope you had a lovely new year, and I also hope no more ridiculous apocalyptic predictions are made from a culture whose religion contradicts the very people who vehemently believe in such doom.  The world didn't end, but Oreos turned 100.

I generally don't believe in New Year's Resolutions, because I think there's something wrong with you and your conviction if you need to set an arbitrary time of year to force yourself to do something, but if I did I would say to make a goal to volunteer in 2013.  Maybe there is an event you would love to do, or maybe you can teach a workshop on queer origami for youth.  Who knows?

In this email, I've included volunteer opportunities at other organizations with similar or related missions to ours.  It's a bit long, so don't be overwhelmed.  We want Out Boulder to be part of the larger community, so see where you can fit in (and wear your Out Boulder shirt there)!

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities at Out Boulder:

Bold Off Beat Arts Out Boulder Youth GLBT
BOLD Youth Program
The BOLD Program has some great activities for youth coming up in 2013, and I would love your artsy-volunteer skills! Every Tuesday, we have a creative drop-in space for youth at the Pride House from 4-530, and although I can run the program and talk (extensively) about art in theory, my crafty skills are...well...let's just say I can talk the talk, but the walk? Sometimes, and sometimes not so much. I am asking you, our community, if you have art skills would you like to share them? Can you put together a fun and simple art project that is about an hour and half long? Want to hang out with some amazing youth in our community? If you are out there jumping for joy, please stop bouncing long enough to go to our wonderful website and fill out an art activity form! You will find it on the BOLD page, and then I will get in touch with you! I am hoping to enact this new twist on BOLD's youth drop-in mid-January. Hope to hear from you!  --B., bmann@outboulder.org

MESA (Moving to End Sexual Assault)
MESA has an upcoming training on February 4th.  They are looking for volunteers for their
24-Hour Rape Crisis and Information Hotline, their Men Standing Up Program, which trains trains male volunteers to conduct bystander intervention presentations to the community in order to raise awareness about sexual assault prevention, and event and office volunteers.  Take a look at the volunteer section of their website for full descriptions of these opportunities, or contact them below.
