Dear Community,
On Sunday, I had the privilege of attending the Lavender Gala--a celebration for the Boulder County's lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community age 60 and better and their friends, families, and allies. It was a wonderful event; one that has been building for 12 years, this being the 12th annual event. I love connecting with every possible segment of our community. Each is so diverse with its own needs, yet there is still something that unites us. Something unspoken--an understanding and a willingness to be connected without even knowing very much about each other at first.
I look forward to getting to know each of you. I have found the power of community so essential in my job. Thank you for all of your smiling faces, your passion, your eagerness. It is these qualities that will keep us strong as a community, hold us together, and move us forward.
I hope you will join for two great events this week: 8 the Play on Thursday, and our Holiday Open House on Friday... More ways to build community and share why it is so great to be part of this community we call ours.

Directly following the reading on Thursday, Dec 6, will be a community talk back for "8: The Play" featuring:
Dr. Lee Badgett is the Research Director at the Williams Institute for Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at UCLA
Rev. Pat Bruns is the senior pastor at First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Boulder. He and the other FUMC pastors have recently made a commitment to perform same-sex unions in the church, despite the explicit prohibition on such services by the worldwide United Methodist Church.
Brad Clark is the Executive Director of One Colorado, the statewide LGBT organization whose goal is to secure and protect equality and opportunity for LGBT Coloradans. Brad has led One Colorado in organizing an impressive movement for civil unions, as well as pursuing other important initiatives, such as building coalitions with other community, health, faith, labor, and business organizations to pass anti-bullying legislation and develop an LGBT health initiative.
Jean Dubofsky is an attorney with a long history of civil rights work and of active support for the LGBT community. Jean served as lead counsel when the constitutionality of Colorado's anti-LGBT Amendment 2 was challenged before the United States Supreme Court. Her successful work in that case led the US Supreme Court to declare Amendment 2 unconstitutional (Romer v.Evans).
Dr. Glenda Russell is a psychologist at CU's Counseling and Psychological Services and also has a private practice. Active in the "No on 2" campaign against Amendment 2, she conducted research on the psychological impact of anti-LGBT politics. Her findings are detailed in her book, Voted Out: The Psychological Consequences of Anti-gay Politics.

Trans & Genderqueer Support Group - Wednesdays
|
|---|
Boulder Trans and Genderqueer Support (BTGS) offers support group meetings and social fun for people of all ages who identify as transgender and/or identify anywhere within the gender variant spectrum/sphere/torus. Our support meetings emphasize respect for peoples' experience in all types of gender variant identities, including genderqueer, third gender, trans women, trans men, trans masculine/feminine, bi-gender, genderfluid, intersex, and of course anyone questioning/deciphering their gender identity. For the safety and comfort of our group members, our meetings are not currently open to SOFFAs (significant others, family, family, friends or allies of trans and genderqueer folks). The group is consciously welcoming to gender variant people of color and persons with disabilities and we strive to build and maintain an anti-oppressive, inclusive group culture. Please come if you want support in your experience, you want to hear from others about their experience, or maybe you just want to spend time in a group of people that is accepting of you as you are.
