A Message from Out Boulder Board Member, Lester Wall

Greetings! ,

This month ends my four year term on the Out Boulder Board or Directors. As a straight ally, I want to honor Out Boulder and its board members for the the welcome I have received and the willingness to include me in our mission of creating an "out", safe and connected LGBT community.

This election years provides new ways for me to express the the values that define Out Boulder!  We are radicals--organizing from the bottom up and partnering with other oppressed groups. We are liberals--totally committed to equality and democracy. We are fiscally conservative--doing so much with so little and always with an eye on our expenses.

Though I feel I have given a lot these four years, it pales in comparison to what I have received from this volunteer experience.  I hope many of you will consider volunteering your time with Out Boulder.

Lester Wall, Out Boulder Board of Directors

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:  Peers Building Justice

Peers Building Justice

Peers Building Justice (PBJ) is a radical youth collective that explores how dating and sexual violence are sustained by power and control in our communities. PBJ aims to unearth community awareness of social-justice issues, inspire arts-based events and projects to end oppression, build youth power, and create transformative discussions in classrooms, court rooms, and everywhere in between.

PBJ employs a social justice framework. We believe that in order to end violence against any individual and youth, we must understand and challenge the varying forms of oppression people experience, which can be intricately woven into teen dating violence and sexual assault. We will work side by side with students to respectfully and sensitively explore cultural and historical struggles that face our communities every day. This approach allows individuals to develop critical thinking skills in how they view relationships within societal norms and learn tools to create healthy relationships.

PBJ is a collaboration of Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) and Moving to End Sexual Assault (MESA). PBJ recently partnered with Out Boulder's BOLD OffBeat Arts to offer a social movie evening for youth as a part of Trans* Awareness Week on Saturday, Nov. 17. The film featured was the queer action adventure film DEBS. We look forward to working together again on future programs!

TRANSforming Gender Symposium Call for Proposals

CU GLBTQ Resource Center

The University of Colorado-Boulder's TRANSforming Gender Symposium is celebrating its seventh year! The Symposium hosts national and local transgender and genderqueer activists to address issues surrounding transgender, genderqueer and related identities. Previous presenters and participants have included academics, health professionals, community organizers, performance and visual artists, students, faculty, staff, youth, family members, community members, and other interested folks.

Workshop topics may encompass many aspects of gender identity, gender expression, trans identities, transitioning, and other transgender and intersex related issues. Panels, papers, and workshops will address these issues through a variety of lenses as well as in relation to specific contexts such as social justice, academia or health. We particularly encourage proposals that are relevant to trans identities such as intersex, two-spirit, genderqueer, and people of color. More info
