The Coalition is pleased to announce the launch of Solarize Ojai, a two-month group-purchasing program designed make it easier and more affordable for Ojai Valley homeowners to add solar electricity to their homes. The Coalition partnered with the Community Environmental Council (CEC) to bring this program to the Ojai Valley. CEC ran a similar program in Santa Barbara and helped 49 homeowners add solar to their homes in 2011.

Solarize Ojai will be available for two months-October 6, 2012 through December 7, 2012. During this time, homeowners in the Ojai Valley can purchase solar electricity at a set, discounted price from two local installers: REC Solar and California Solar Electric. After a rigorous application process, the Coalition and CEC vetted and selected these two local companies based on their experience, quality of work and pricing. Solarize Ojai offers Ojai Valley residents peace of mind from knowing that they are working with a reputable, established solar installer and they are receiving a discounted price for their solar panels.

To apply for "Solarize Ojai" homeowners can go to www.SolarizeOjai.org for the simple 5-minute application process. Within 48 hours of application, CEC will contact applicants to discuss the process and expectations. Or interested homeowners can contact CEC directly at [email protected] or (805) 963-0583 x105.

The Coalition and CEC will host an introductory workshop where Ojai Valley residents can learn about energy efficiency, conservation and solar energy. Coalition members and their friends are encouraged to attend:

Thursday, November 1 at the Chaparral Auditorium, 414 E Ojai Avenue from 7:00-8:30 pm.

The Solarize Ojai program also helps support the Coalition and CEC. Included in the purchase price is a small one-time fee ($0.15 per installed watt) that will be paid by REC Solar and California Solar Electric directly to the Coalition and CEC. This fee will help both organizations continue to promote renewable energy in the Central Coast region and be self-sustaining.

Global Warming
Transcends Politics,
But. . .

The Ojai Valley Green Coalition is a non-political organization, but engagement in the political process is crucial. This election season, at the local, state and federal levels, please make sure your voice counts. Help our political leaders understand that environmental problems are real - from plastic bags choking our waterways and wildlife to global warming wreaking havoc on our weather patterns - and they must do their part to help us find solutions.

We encourage you to educate yourself on the differing views of candidates as they relate to the health of our environment, and to contact them directly if you have questions.
