Kincaid Snowmaking Update
Snowmaking
What's the status of snowmaking at Kincaid? When can we ski on it? Those on the questions on many people's mind as we wait for Mother Nature to deliver our long overdue snow.

The snowmaking system at Kincaid Park is not yet fully operational, but it is in final construction. The snow that has been made so far is part of the TESTING phase - making sure that each component of this system is running at 100%. As is expected with a complex system running under high pressure (between 350 to 500 psi), the testing phase has revealed some challenges and weak points which must be solved prior to making snow at full capacity. Progress is being made and as each issue is resolved we are bringing more of the system up to operating levels.

The Kincaid Project Group (KPG), NSAA volunteers and NSAA grooming staff are working around the clock to finalize the many intricate details of the construction, complete the testing phase, and wrap up the final inspection of this high-tech system. Once up and running smoothly, NSAA will be responsible for operating and maintaining the snowmaking system.

We know how passionate the Nordic skiing community is and the intense desire to get on skis and enjoy our winter months. We also know how hard it is to wait for either nature or our human engineering to deliver the goods in the form of magical snow. The board and staff of NSAA thank you all for your patience as we help KPG complete the 3km Techno Alpin snowmaking system.

Volunteer Groomers needed!

APU Shovelers
NSAA is looking for a few hardy folks to join our grooming crew. Have you enjoyed Anchorage's great skiing and want a chance to give back? This is your chance!

We are interested in folks available to volunteer for evening snowmachine grooming with some of the coolest guys in town!

Interested? Give NSAA Trails Committee Chair, Mike Miller a call 229-7838. The community will thank you!

The December Alaska Nordic Skier newsletter should be arriving in NSAA member's mailboxes soon. If you don't receive one, could it be you haven't renewed your 2012/2013 NSAA membership yet? We're not pointing fingers, but could this also be why it hasn't snowed yet? just a thought.
