SW Breezes Editor's Ramblings
Volunteering is a curious concept. As many of you, no doubt, I sometimes find that I can't say 'no' to a person or group. Maybe I find the topic interesting or a personal challenge, or maybe I was trying to educate myself about something and saw an opportunity for a learning experience. On the other hand, overextending oneself is a very real possibility, at which time it is easy to become overwhelmed with too much to do. Obviously a balance is necessary: if anyone has discovered how to do that, please let us know.

David A. Bishton, RA, CSI, CCS, CCCA
President CSI Southwest Region
It was an extraordinary week of education and leadership training in Nashville for CONSTRUCT 2013.
Experiences and learning opportunities on every level. So what does a week at CONSTRUCT look like? Here are one person's highlights of the event (and I thank you for the opportunity to attend):

Tuesday - Four 1-1/2-hour long seminars including Energy Modeling, Business Accounting (led by our Region's own Liz O'Sullivan of the Denver Chapter), Material Specs in LEEDv4, and the Cloud and Connected BIM. And no conflicting obligations.
- Reception for Chapter and Region Presidents. There I met fellow presidents from the Region including Randy Harris of Tucson, Bryan Smith of Denver, Brian McClure of Phoenix, Tonya Dodge of Salt Lake City, Chuck Lowery of Albuquerque, other SW Region leaders in Institute.
- Nearly 20 of us from across the Region met at the Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown Nashville. Little business, mostly...

RETURN OF THE $100M PROJECT
Big Projects are Off the Board and Ready to Break Ground
They're baaaccckkkk!!! Monster projects are rising from the landscape. It's the return of the $100M project to the Arizona landscape. For half-a-decade, it's been pretty quiet on the major construction front. After predictions that the market would look somewhat normal by 2014, the economists are looking pretty smart as the big projects start coming out of the ground.
