Physicians: Income, Transparency and EHR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some interesting info found its way to my desk recently, all of it having to do with doctors. You may find one or more of these three articles of some interest as well.
First, Medscape recently published some data dealing with the incomes of physicians in various specialties. It's rather interesting stuff, especially with regard to the disparities.
Second, now that Medicare has released data on payments to individual physicians, this new level of transparency has (according to KevinMD.com) opened the hunting season on doctors. His article explores how these data can often be misleading. My takeaway: Don't take this information too literally. Nevertheless, there is much income disparity here as well.
Finally, who would have thought that the wonderful "copy and paste" function of a word processor could create havoc and drive up Medicare costs and potential fraud in electronic health records (EHRs)? Well it can. A New York Times piece makes that case, and convincingly so.
