Exciting Changes at The Children's Room
| |
A note from the Executive Director -
This summer has been full of growth and change at The Children's Room. And with our building renovation in progress, you can certainly see and feel many of those changes taking place!
The renovation of our lower level will allow staff to move our offices downstairs, creating much-needed additional program space on the original first floor. In addition to our new space, we're also excited to welcome three new staff members to TCR - Cynthia Mesh, Nancy Frumer Styron, and Becca Harris. We'll be sharing more information soon about their new roles.
All of this growth is possible because of our generous community and committed leadership. We recently had the opportunity to appreciate outgoing Board Co-Chairs Michael Gilligan and Nancy Lubin-Levy as they transition from the role they have held for nearly four years. During their tenure, TCR has increased in financial health and stability. We are excited to welcome our new Board Chair, Neil Fisher, and we look forward to continued growth under his leadership.
All of these exciting changes are helping us to deepen our roots as an organization (literally!) so that we can reach more grieving children, teens and families.
Thank you for your continued support as we move forward!
With appreciation,
Donna Smith Sharff

TCR Receives $100,000 Grant from the Cummings Foundation
| |
The Children's Room was recently selected as one of the 100 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 each through Cummings Foundation's new $100K for 100 program. TCR was chosen from more than 370 applicants during a competitive review process by the Foundation.
The Children's Room was nominated for the grant by Ben Daniels (left), a 13-year employee of Cummings Properties and a neighbor of Chris Watson, program volunteer at TCR.
This exciting story all began one year ago when Chris was fundraising for TCR's Annual Memories Walk and Ben directed a donation to TCR in honor of Chris's walk. We are thrilled and honored to be chosen as a Cummings Foundation grant recipient and so thankful to both Ben and Chris for the roles they played in making this possible! Presenting on Mindfulness & Children

Staff from The Children's Room presented last month at the annual National Alliance for Grieving Children (NAGC) conference.

Colleen Shannon and Donna Smith Sharff led a workshop titled "Mindful Approaches to Working with Grieving Children and Families".
Mindfulness is paying attention, on purpose, to the present moment, without judgment. Practicing and modeling mindfulness while working with grieving children and families is an important element of TCR's programs. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our skills and experience with other grief support centers located across the country. |

Join us for the 10th Annual Memories Walk!
|
This fun and inspiring event is TCR's biggest community gathering of the year.
Come be a part of our 10th Annual Walk and help us keep TCR's essential programs in place, providing support to grieving children, teens and families.
Following our three-mile walk, we will celebrate at Arlington Town Hall with food, entertainment, and an inspirational program to commemorate the 10th Annual Memories Walk.

Troop co-leader Ruth drops off Girl Scout cookies with Megan and Karenna
|
- Girl Scout Troop 71058 of Arlington for their "Cookies for a Cause" donation. The sixth grade girls in this troop wanted their cookies to stay local and to go to an organization that helps other kids. Thank you!
- All our gifted, reliable, caring volunteers (close to 100!), without whom we could not reach nearly as many children and families... thank you one and all.
