Meet our 2013 Miles & Memories Marathon Team!
TCR is thrilled to announce our team for the Boston Marathon!

For the fourth year in a row, TCR will be a part of Marathon Monday, thanks to the John Hancock Non-Profit Program and the eight dedicated runners who are training and fundraising in preparation for the big day.

John Dudley - 2013 Marathon
John is running in memory of his younger brother Ryan and his father Dave.
"I'm just 30 years old, and have already lost half of my immediate family. It has not been easy."     continue reading

Nanci is running in memory of her husband Ron.
"I remember telling Ron, 'One day that will be me and you'll be watching me on the sideline.' Although Ron was never on the sidelines, he has been with me for each and every run since then, and it is his name and picture that crosses the finish line with me each and every time."

Stephanie is running in memory of her father.
"When I was 4 years old my father died suddenly of a heart attack. My brother was 6 and my mom was pregnant with my sister."              continue reading

Kristen is running in memory of her friends' sons, Luke and Jack.
"In September 2010 my good friends Sarah and Mike lost their twin sons, Luke Blais and Jack Michael, shortly after birth."

Anne is running in memory of her husband Jim.
"Jim has been gone now for four years and yet it seems like it was just yesterday he was here being a husband, dad, son, brother, friend -- a vibrant personality."           continue reading

Brandon is running in memory of his grandparents and Aunt Sue.
"My family never really dealt directly with losing my dad's parents and his sister until a few years ago, when my dad discovered The Children's Room."

"I run the marathon to honor and remember those who cannot run, and hopefully to make a difference for all who have lost loved ones."

Brenda is running in memory
of her father.
"My father died when he was 43 and I was 8. Now 51 years old, I am grateful to be able to experience the very challenging process it will take for me to complete a lifelong dream - running the Boston Marathon."

Take a Tour

The Children's Room Community Tour is open to anyone who would like to learn about how we support grieving children, teens & families.

TCR house by Maggie

Guests hear a heartfelt welcome from a board or staff member, then take a 45-minute walk through the house. People have told us after the tour that they were incredibly moved and can now picture what happens in our programs. They enter expecting to find a sad atmosphere, and instead they leave feeling surprised by the colorful and comforting surroundings at the house, and the stories of hope and inspiration.

Our Heartfelt Thanks
Hearts

We are grateful to so many of you whose support makes a huge difference here at The Children's Room. A word of thanks to some special donations of time, talent, and much-needed resources:

  • John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program for providing us with eight bibs for the 2013 Boston Marathon, enabling us to raise crucial funds for our programs supporting grieving children, teens and families.
  • Michael & Betsy Pridham and SERVPRO of Cambridge/Belmont for keeping our carpets clean and fresh for our families.
  • All our gifted, reliable, caring volunteers (close to 100!), who we could not do without... thank you one and all.

The Children's Room: Where courage and community come together
Our newsletter name comes from the color of our house, Lionheart Yellow.
The lion represents courage, and the heart represents what binds us.

Reading the powerful stories of our Marathon team reminds me of all the stories families and volunteers share with each other at The Children's Room. Stories have the power to change us, connect us to each other, and inspire us to do great things.

I'm continually amazed by the dedication and stories of our Marathon runners - past and present - and grateful for all that they do to support TCR's mission of serving grieving families.

With appreciation for all of our stories,
