Namaste,
My inner critic has a strong voice. Maybe she was a cheerleader. Or lead vocalist in a metal band - the kind where it sounds like a lot of angry screaming instead of singing. I've worked hard, and I mean really, really, really hard in the past few years to put her in her place. And please note I said put in her place - removed from her throne - not banished from the kingdom of my inner world.
Because she absolutely does have a place. The benevolent(-ish) side of that inner critic is the instigator for much that I have accomplished, and is in part responsible for making me who I am. That voice is part of the totality that is me in this world. She just needs a gag a lot of the time. She needs to be told in no uncertain terms that while her opinion is sometimes valued in creating new work, honing a skill or perfecting a craft, when it comes to what I'm doing, how I look, what I've accomplished or who I am as a human being on this earth, she just doesn't get a vote.

a few of my favorite things |
spotlight on teacher mary scudella
Enjoy getting to know your teachers beyond the blue, as you read about some of Mary's favorite things!
Getting to know N.C. - I've been in North Carolina for three years now, and I LOVE it! We moved here from Chicagoland in September 2013. I truly enjoy exploring our new home state, visiting the mountains, going to the beach (can't do either of those in the midwest!) and checking out great food in the Triangle. Our most recent adventure was lazy river rafting on the Cape Fear River - five hours of floating down the river on a tube with family and friends. Next time, more sunscreen!
My yoga space - Last year we redecorated our first floor bedroom into a true yoga studio. It's one of my favorite places to spend time. All of my yoga stuff is in one place - props, essential oils, tuning forks, books, and most importantly, my mat. Creating a space in your home where you can retreat, regroup, and care for yourself is imperative. Since much of my practice is at home, this space is my refuge. Traveling with my family - I was blessed to be given a family that travels well. Ever since my 16-year-old daughter was little, she has been a great traveler. Some of our favorite places are Italy, Hawaii, and of course, going back home to Chicago. This year, I am off to Santa Fe for more yoga training, New York with the Broughton Band, and hopefully Paris next summer.
