Namaste~

Life is what happens while we're making other plans. Isn't that a famous quote? Circumstances change. Things don't go quite like you expected, hoped or wished. So it is, as we walk through this life.

While there is nothing we can do about the interruptions and obstacles-- whether small hiccups or rug-out-from-under-you crises-- it doesn't take too many visits to the mat to realize that there is much in this life that is not in our control. However, there is one big thing that is very much in our control (if we want it to be) and that is the reaction we have to the situation at hand.

Example: I should be writing to you this month from Belize, taking a break from a little yoga, snorkeling, exploring and napping under palm trees to share the bliss of time away. I am not. I am writing from an odd-looking propped position in my living room, where I have been for over two weeks, with the brown dog staring quizzically at me from the other side of the room. I had plans for Belize. The Universe had a different idea. I'd been getting a series of internal "STOP" messages about my pace, my workload and my choices for a while. I filed each of them neatly in the "to-do" box. The Powers that Be took matters into their own hands and WHAM! I got the message. So here I am. Not at all where I had planned to be.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very sad to miss some time in a place that a love, with my dear friend Carrington and a pack of happy yoginis. I'm disappointed in myself for (yet again) filing Messages from The Universe instead of listening to them. But this is not a punishment. This is, as another friend would say, another opportunity for spiritual growth. And so I have slowed down to a glacial pace unrecognizable to me as actual movement. I have asked for (a lot of) help- something I am not in the habit of doing. I am using this time to reframe a few things that have gotten out of perspective. I feel good about this odd, propped, painful place. Like everything else, it's temporary.

Where are you, and why are you there? Are you making the best of it or making yourself miserable? It's a choice.

Blessings and thanks to so very many people. You know who you are.

Peace,
Jill

yoga for anxiety relief
create space to breathe
Life moves fast! And sometimes that wicked pace can create anxiety in the form of worried thoughts, feelings of pressure, tightness in the body, and a busy, busy mind. Over time, this repeated stress response can take its toll on our overall physical and metal health.

Do you experience any of the physical stress responses of anxiety: increased heart rate, fast and shallow breath, digestive disturbances, low blood flow, muscle rigidity and tightness? There are other signs and symptoms of anxiety which are very common, including times when one actively avoids certain situations, relives traumatic events, and even suffers from panic attacks.

The Yoga for Anxiety Relief: Creating Space to Breathe workshop gives you the opportunity explore what circumstances trigger stress and anxiety for you, what thoughts coincide with the experiences, and how your body responds. Once you have this understanding, you can begin to create space to breathe by offering your body ways to respond differently.

You’ll learn practices such as pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, asana (yoga poses), and restorative yoga postures to ease your mind and relax your body. Life’s challenges are inevitable; this workshop will give you new insights and strategies on how to better cope.

did you know?
why our teachers are extra special
Yvonne Cropp has been with us since the day we opened our door for the very first time, but perhaps there are some things you didn't know about that sweet, familiar face. Did you know that in addition to teaching yoga, Yvonne is also a Thai Yoga therapist and Personal Trainer? She's currently adding to her skill set, pursuing certification in Colorpuncture - AcuLight Therapy. As if that's not enough work to keep her busy, Yvonne has also been volunteer teaching yoga at the cancer center for six years. Outside of work, Yvonne's special love is her niece, Day, whom she frequently visits in Asheville, N.C. If you haven't met this special yogini, make a point to attend one of her inspiring classes.
