Healthy Michigan In the News
In October the New England Journal of Medicine, the most prestigious medical journal in the world, contained an interesting article, Launching the Healthy Michigan Plan - The First 100 Days. Healthy Michigan Plan is part of the Affordable Care Act, making Medicaid available for those with incomes under 138% of federal poverty guidelines.

A Successful Launch in Michigan
Within the first 100 days over 300,000 Michiganders enrolled and gained access to health coverage. The state had projected it would take a year to reach that number. As of early November, 450,000 fellow citizens are covered by Healthy Michigan Plan.
Packard Health Sees the EffectDue to this Medicaid expansion, over 45% of the patients seen at Packard in September had some type of Medicaid coverage. A great majority of patients who had been covered by the Washtenaw Health Plan are now on the Healthy Michigan Plan. However, despite the expansion of insurance coverage, one in three NEW patients arrives for care at Packard Health without health insurance in any form.
There is improvement in the national environment for health insurance - and we're happy about that progress.
Speaking of progress, here at Packard Health we are busy working to align with the current national model of funding for primary care delivery to vulnerable populations. I hope to have more news on that in the near future.
The first snow has arrived and I'd like to wish all of you Happy Holidays,
Dr. Raymond Rion

Packard Health Patient Advocates
Connecting With Care
Food, a bed, help with an electric bill, health insurance - for some patients, the path to optimal health is complicated. Two problem-solvers are on the job. Meet our patient advocates, Haidar Al-Mohammad and Cynthia Fretter. From their tiny offices (Main and West) they do big things, collaborating with caseworkers, plugging into community resources, pinpointing state and federal aid. With enrollment for 2015 insurance coverage now open, these two Certified Application Counselors are extra busy assisting patients. They link patients to services that can improve lives. Hats off to Haidar and Cynthia, two "Can-do!" staffers. Read more: Building connections 3 ways.
