Guy's Trust News October 2015
|
Welcome to the latest newsletter from Guy's Trust.
b
Guy's Trust was established in memory of Guy Joseph, marine biologist, scuba instructor, and paraglider who tragically lost his life, aged 25, in a paragliding accident in 2011. The charity focuses on projects that reflect his life, interests and personality.
We are sending you this newsletter because you have come to one of our events, sponsored one of our fundraisers or expressed an interest in our charity - and we want to share some of the great achievements you have helped to make possible over the last few months. We hope you'll enjoy reading but if you'd prefer not to hear from us you can unsubscribe below.

Watch our new film
We have a lovely new little film, made specially for us by the wonderful Claudia de Wolff. It's only five minutes long so please find a slot to watch it - and please let us know what you think. Thanks!

Really fantastic raffle prizes including tickets to Cirque de Soleil at the Albert Hall, meals at Le Coq and Ember Yard and a host of other goodies. Places are going fast but you can still reserve yours here.

These children's school is dilapidated and unsafe - so we're building them a new one! If you'd like to visit a fascinating country, do something really worthwhile - and have fun while you're doing it - we have three places still available on the trip. A unique opportunity to work alongside the people we're helping. No prior building skill required and you can extend your trip to visit the temples of Angkor too. More details here or contact us at info@guystrust.org

Nepal after the earthquake
Our special earthquake appeal raised almost £12,000. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed. With this money we have funded the reconstruction of the damaged Shree Chapakharka school (pictured) through our partner ChoraChori, support ed the British School in Kathmandu's major outreach project in Dhading, and paid for new floors at Shree Gadgade school in Nagarkot.
v b
The letter from Shree Gadgade's principal sums up how important our work is ..."We lots of thanks you for your kind hands. We have felt great relief even though our school buildings have been destroyed. The support what you have done us actualy will be played a role for childrens educational futures. You have become as a god for us in this dissaster period."

Sujan Gurung, Nepali hero
Congratulations and a big thank you to Sujan Gurung, who decided to do something for his own community, got on his
bicycle and rode the 200 km
from Kathmandu to Pokhara to raise money for Guy's Trust's projects in his district. Anyone who has been to Nepal will know that it's not flat! So, if you feel you can sponsor him even a small amount, it would be a great act of philanthropy.

The 2015 GuyJoseph-Manta Watch internship programme in Indonesia has just come to an end and has been enormously successful. Our four students, mentored by previous years' interns, spent a month surveying the mantas' unique markings, teaching scuba tourists the code of conduct when diving with mantas and visiting schools to talk to pupils about the importance of Indonesia's marine environment and to encourage them to take ownership of this precious resource.
b
This is what intern Lucia wrote to us when the programme was over, "...I learned a lot of things from MIP ... the importance of being punctual, being professional, being kind for others and nature, being good communicators, being a good leader, and also being a good in Manta survey. Thank you so much for everything, for you and for Guy's Trust. Every knowledge that I got, I will not keep it for my self, but I will share it as much as I can. And I hope, MantaWatch Internship Program will running for ever."
