HE IS RISEN! Mark 16:6

Easter brings us the joyful message of HOPE ---  He is Risen! As we celebrate the Easter season, I invite you to reflect on your own Easter stories. It is in and through our personal narrative that we become more closely aligned to the life of Christ ...

When have you carried the burden of the cross in your life struggles?

How do you help patients carry the weight of their cross as they come to us for their health care needs?

How do you care for the fragile and broken as they carry the cross along the road to Calvary?

Who was there to help you carry the burden of hurt, disappointment and failure?

And yet, somehow, someway, we all rise from yesteryear to the present. We never forget the pain and grief and hurt, but we find ourselves experiencing moments of joy and peace once again. As the storm passes by, we begin to see more and more of the beautifully serene blue sky.

May you and your loved ones have a blessed Easter!

Caught in the Act: Bon Secours
thanks employees for jobs well done

Bon Secours values our employees for their values. That's why we choose to recognize employees who do a great job, whether it's in a WOW story, a heartfelt thank you or a formal program.

"Good managers have a way of 'catching' their employees doing something well," noted Todd Acker, who works with resident activities and marketing at Bon Secours SummerHill. It's equally important, he said, that co-workers identify teammates doing something valuable.

Core Values callout

Acker suggested that the HealthSource/Ambulatory Care create Key to Values, a program designed to help co-workers acknowledge and thank each other for demonstrating Bon Secours Values. Other facilities have similar programs to celebrate achievements by our dedicated staff. Feeling recognized for a job well done is an important measure in the upcoming Gallup Employee Engagement survey.

The Key to Values program goals are to reinforce Bon Secours' core values and to encourage employees to participate in celebrating each other's achievements. It also gives managers a platform to recognize excellence.

At HealthSource, employees may nominate colleagues, and both nominator and nominee could win a small gift. But feeling appreciated is perhaps the most important thing.

"It's valuable in the sense that the caught act is consistent, even representative or exemplary of what our survey calloutBon Secours values are meant to be," said Acker.

Department of Defense Honors
Employee and Health System
On March 5, the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense recognized Lori Anderson, OR/CSD/Anesthesia nurse manager at Mary Immaculate Hospital, with its "Patriotic Employer" award.
The award recognized Anderson for "contributing to the national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America's National Guard and Reserve Force."

In addition, the Employer Support the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) department within the Department of Defense also recognized Bon Secours with its Above and Beyond award.
Anderson's recognition is a direct result of the efforts by Holly Francis, Perioperative Surgical biller at Mary Immaculate Hospital. In nominating her former manager, Francis wrote, "She has organized

Veterans Day events independently and worked with the hospital for larger-scale events. Personally, Mrs. Anderson goes above and beyond in ensuring that I have the time necessary to service my military obligations. She promotes a workplace environment in which I, and the other service members under her, receive the time, understanding, and education and support that we require to excel in both our civilian and military lives. Her support has extended even to the donation of her own personal PTO (Paid Time Off) to service members under her care that were struggling financially."
