Honoring Martin Luther King with a Day of Service
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, Jan. 18, observed with the MLK Day of Service which empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems and move closer to Dr. King's vision of a beloved community.
Dr. King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.

Bon Secours Awards New Round of SEED Grants Totaling $110,000

Bon Secours Richmond and Virginia Local Initiatives Support Corporation recently announced the awarding of $110,000 in funding to 12 Church Hill businesses, including seven new awardees and five past Supporting East End Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) recipients. This marks the fifth year of the SEED program, an annual small business awards competition providing grants to promising entrepreneurs and start-ups that plan to open or expand a business along Richmond's 25th Street and Nine Mile corridor, near Richmond Community Hospital.

Update your Global Address List (GAL) information so that people can find you on Outlook and on IRIS. Click here to go to the update page. Enter your login credentials (same as to get on the BSHSI system) and click the Log In button. Correct your information and be sure to click the Update button before quitting.

Confidentiality and Security Training Due Jan. 15
There are just days left for employees to complete the BSHSI Confidentiality and Security Agreement 2016 training required to access all BSHSI systems.
All employees and employed providers must complete the HealthStream module titled "BSHSI confidentiality and Security Agreement 2016" by Jan. 15 and electronically sign the Confidentiality and Security Agreement. This training takes less than 10 minutes. Those who have not completed the training will find their access disabled after Jan. 15.
All employees who have completed their training by deadline will be automatically entered in a drawing for a $25 VISA gift card.

Seeking RNs for Internships
Bon Secours is currently recruiting for the 2016 Perioperative Internship program. We are seeking RNs who are passionate about pursuing a career in the Operating Room. Limited spots are available for this extensive training program, which offers classroom and hands-on clinical perioperative instruction. Selected individuals will be paid for their participation and receive full benefits.
The deadline to apply is Jan. 15 and the program will begin in March. If you are interested, please contact Melissa Bigos at 410-387-9997 or apply online.

Congratulations, Graduates!
 The Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing held commencement exercises last month. More than 85 July and December graduates are now official alumni of the College with Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. The ceremony's keynote speaker was Sr. Rose Marie Jasinski, country leader for the Sisters of Bon Secours USA. Toni Ardabell, CEO of Bon Secours Richmond, and Nancy C. Thomas, chairwoman of the Joint Hospitals Board of Directors, awarded the degrees. |
Safeguard Your Health with an Easy Test
January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. Are you up to date on your Pap smear? Bon Secours has teamed up with the National Cervical Cancer Coalition to raise awareness about cervical cancer, early detection and prevention.
"Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer for women worldwide, but it's one of the most preventable and treatable types of cancer," said Dr. Renee Morales, a physician at Bon Secours Western Branch OB/GYN in Hampton Roads. "In this country, we have great cervical cancer screening tests available, unlike many other countries where it is the leading cause of cancer related death among women."

Mark Your Calendar
Recognition Day is the day our health system honors the founding of Bon Secours in 1824. Bon Secours Virginia will observe Recognition Day on Jan. 25, celebrating the work and contributions of the dedicated staff who answered the call to serve by participating in Bon Secours ministries.

Try a Fresh Start to 2016

Another round of Fresh Start Tobacco Cessation will begin Jan. 19. The four-week telephone cessation program will give you the tools and tactics you need to quit for good.
