Ben Franklin Academy Newsletter | Vol. 3, Iss. 16 May 2013 | |
Dear Parents,
Our annual BEN efit Bash was a HUGE success! The gross profits from this evening were $61,201! The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is working hard to calculate the net amount that will go back to the school. Sincere thanks to the auction team who put in countless hours collecting donations, organizing items and setting up the hotel. Special thanks to Kimberly Kent, Julia Porterfield, Tiffanie Vaught, Laurie Kerman, Halsley Hoff and Shelly Dana for leading teams for the event. Congratulations to the Board of Directors for receiving the first Ben Franklin Award at the Bash for exemplifying the 13 virtues and making a difference in our community. If you have feedback or ideas for next year's event, please fill out the event evaluation form here.

Car Pool Safety
I realize we are close to the end of the school year and we tend to let our guard down, but please do not do so when it comes to car pool safety. I have seen quite a few parents on their cell phones or other electronic devices as they drive through the line. Doing this takes your full attention away from the car pool lines and the kids, which in not OK. Please help keep all of our students safe by giving your full attention to the task at hand.

Opt Out RideArrangers/Way to Go
We are pleased to continue our partnership with Schoolpool to assist families who are interested in car pooling, walking or biking to and from school with other families. Schoolpool is sponsored by Way to Go (formerly RideArrangers), a program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments. For more information, click here.
If you do not want your information shared with Way to Go, please complete a short survey by Monday, May 6.

Library Update
The library will close Friday, May 10, for inventory and the Summer Reading Scholastic Book Fair. All books will need to be returned by then. Students will receive a notice the following week if they still owe the library a book. Students will get their final report cards when their library account has been cleared by either returning the book or paying the replacement cost.

Bake Sale
We are excited to have another K-8 bake sale during the lunch hour for our students on Friday, May 17. Our last bake sale proved to be a great fundraiser for our middle school students. We are excited not only to taste some of the great selections available, but also for another great fundraiser. Prices are $0.50 each.
