Dear Parents,

We have two field trip during the month of May. The first will occur Tuesday, May 14, for sixth grade students only. They will be going to the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and School of Mines Geology Museum. On Thursday, May 30, all middle school students will be going to Redstone Park for Field Day.

Sixth Grade Trip to the School of Mines and NREL

On Tuesday, May 14, sixth grade students will be visiting both the NREL and School of Mines Geology Museum. At NREL, students will see how energy is created and distributed through renewable energy sources and also gain insight into the cost of hydrogen, solar and wind energy production. At the School of Mines, students will get a guided tour of the Geology Museum to learn about the various uses of minerals and get an in-depth exploration of the rock cycle. If you would like to chaperone, click here and sign up.

The cost of this field trip is covered by one of our grants, but permission is still required for your child to attend. Please complete the registration form for your child.

If you have difficulty signing up online, you may print the permission form by clicking here and send it with your child to turn in at school.

Middle School Field Day

On Thursday, May 30, middle school students will walk to Redstone Park for Field Day at 8:30 a.m. Activities will be setup from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. We will walk back to school after the field day activities have concluded. Lunch On The Go will provide sack lunches for students to take with them. If your student will have his/herr own lunch, s/he will bring it to the park. The cost is free, but you will need to complete the registration form for your child.

Eighth Grade Trip to Washington, D.C.

We have chosen our travel company and dates for our eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C./Philadelphia. From 6:30-7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 7, we will have an informational meeting for students and parents interested in learning more about the eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia. Students were given an envelope containing information about the trip today for you to review. The discounted registration price deadline is Tuesday, May 21.

Car Wash Fundraiser
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is hosting a Car Wash fundraiser from (after pick up) 4-7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 16, at Sunaharas' Car Wash, located at 9151 Commerce Center Circle (Santa Fe and Town Center Drive). Simply wash your car in any of the three self-serve bays or automatic wash, and the middle school will receive 25 percent of the sales. Additional details will be provided in the coming weeks. (Alternate date in case of inclement weather is Thursday, May 23. It doesn't snow in May, right?)
Middle School Bake Sale Fundraiser

On Friday, May 17, we will host another school-wide bake sale to support our eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C. Our last bake sale had all kinds of great options and were very tasty. Students can buy treats for $0.50 each.

Mission: Our mission is to develop young adults with character like America's founding Renaissance man, Benjamin Franklin: well-read, scientifically curious, and civically engaged.

Vision:
Our students will excel academically through a challenging, sequenced curriculum that emphasizes math, science, and literacy. We will be a data driven institution, focusing on individual students. Our students, teachers, parents, staff, and leaders will be held accountable for the success of our school. Finally, we recognize that an education is incomplete without fostering the arts, sports, nature, and character.
