Lee Harris ECW awards Bishop Talton Scholarship to Lee Harris

The Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Los Angeles have announced that the Rev. Lee Harris (pictured at left) of St. Mark's Church, Upland, has been awarded the Bishop Chester L. Talton Deacon's Educational Fund Scholarship.

The ECW established an education fund for deacons in honor of Talton during the group's 114th annual meeting in 2010, when the longtime bishop suffragan retired. The scholarship money is distributed twice a year for continuing education for those who are studying for the diaconate or continuing their education.

Harris was awarded $500 to help defray the cost of attending the Association for Episcopal Deacons Triennial, themed "The Five Marks of Mission." Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and Bishop Ian Douglas of Connecticut will be keynote speakers. Upon his return, Harris will report on his experience.

Applications for scholarships are accepted twice a year; deadlines are April 1 and August 1. Awards range from $100 to $500, and are paid directly to the school or program providing the educational service. All deacons and seminarians are eligible to apply for this fund: visit the ECW Los Angeles website for additional information and to apply. For additional information contact: Linda Amerault at lameretss@hotmail.com.
