Bishop Coadjutor Listening Sessions Complete, Profile in Process
After collecting feedback from fourteen live listening sessions around the diocese with over 250 attendees, and reading through over fifty questionnaires submitted online, the Bishop Coadjutor Search Committee is now in the process of writing the diocesan profile. Committee Chair Rev. Canon Julian Bull says the committee plans to publish the profile by early November and will begin soliciting nominations immediately once the profile is public. The profile will soon be available online through the diocesan website.
The timeline for the search process remains as is previously published:
- November 2015: Diocesan profile completed and call for nominations
- December 2015: Screening begins with interviews, visits and background checks through Spring 2016
- Late Summer 2016: Announcement of nominees
- Fall 2016: Events to meet the nominees on the slate
- December 2016: Election by Diocesan Convention
The Committee has asked for the prayers of the entire diocesan community as the process of soliciting and vetting nominees is imminent.

Agreement reached to resolve Israel school strike
The Education Ministry and the Secretariat of Christian Schools in Israel arrived at an agreement late on Sunday, September 27 to restore funding to the schools deemed "recognized but unofficial", ending a strike that had continued since the beginning of the school year and had involved 47 church schools. The 33,000 students from these schools were able to return to their classes on Monday.
Schools under the "recognized but unofficial" designation are independent to a degree, but are supposed to receive 75% of the state funding allotted to full state schools. The strike began over significant drops in funding thanks to reducing the number of subsidized teaching hours in the Christian schools, resulting in a NIS 200 million shortfall.
A joint committee will be formed in the future, with equal representation from the ministry and the schools, to work out solutions to the legal and financial problems raised. A second group will be created to carry out those solutions and to foster cooperation between the ministry and the secretariat. By agreement, the schools will not be able to strike again until July 2017. The Diocese of Los Angeles is in an official companion relationship with the Diocese of Jerusalem.

Randy Kimmler retires, receives Order of Angels honor
Recognizing outstanding service to the Diocese of Los Angeles, Bishop J. Jon Bruno named Canon Randolph B. B. Kimmler to the honorary Order of Angels on the occasion of Kimmler's Sept. 30 retirement from the diocesan staff, after more than a decade of service as missioner for vocations. "There are few people who have served this diocese as faithfully and as creatively as Randy," Bruno said. "We are so thankful for him and his many years of friendship and service, and the ways that his ministry will continue in the future." Kimmler first joined the diocesan staff in 1982 as warden and executive director of the Cathedral Corporation, appointed by Bishop Robert C. Rusack. In this role Kimmler oversaw the Cathedral Grants Program and founded the Cathedral Bookstore among other initiatives. In 1988, Kimmler became active at All Saints, Beverly Hills, and was shortly thereafter named the parish's director of communication. For 35 years he has been a pioneering leader in diocesan and churchwide LGBT ministries. A former senior warden of both St. Paul's Cathedral and St. John's Pro-Cathedral, Kimmler is also a founder of Holy Spirit Fellowship in Silver Lake, an emergent community worshipping on Thursday evenings and active in community outreach including Laundry Love. A lifelong Episcopalian, Kimmler was raised at Church of the Messiah, Santa Ana, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. An honorary canon of the Cathedral Center, Kimmler will keep office hours there each Wednesday, also pursuing interests with ministries to the homeless, painting classes, and volunteering with the Los Angeles Conservancy. "I am so very grateful," Kimmler said, "for these many gifts and opportunities. I am a very lucky man indeed."
