Get your free tickets now for June 12 Disney Hall concert Final ticket reservations are open to the diocesan community on a first-come, first-served basis for the June 12 gala concert of organ, brass and choir at L.A.'s Walt Disney Concert Hall to mark the Episcopal Church's 150th year of parish ministry Southern California. The program will feature works of Vierne, Bach, Howells, Durufle, Rutter, Reger, Parry and local composer Craig Phillips of All Saints Church, Beverly Hills. The concert is being coordinated by Philip Smith, conservator of the Walt Disney Concert Hall organ and choirmaster at Church of Our Saviour, San Gabriel. Joining Smith and Phillips as principals are James Buonemani of St. James Church, Los Angeles; Thomas Neenan of St. Matthew's, Pacific Palisades; Ned Tipton of St. John's ProCathedral, Los Angeles; and James Walker of All Saints, Pasadena. Tickets are free of charge, but audience members should plan on parking fees of at least $9 per vehicle. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Reservations may be placed by email to bishopsoffice@ladiocese.org, or by calling 213.482.2040, ext. 220. Names, phone numbers, email addresses and parish/mission affiliation (include city name) are required with each reservation. June 7 event will celebrate life of Malcolm Boyd, 'Disturber of the Peace' T he diocesan community is invited to "Disturber of the Peace: A Celebration of Malcolm Boyd" on Sunday, June 7, 2 - 4 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood Library Auditorium. The Rev. Canon Malcolm Boyd, who died Feb. 27 at the age of 91, had a profound and lasting impact on American culture. From his early days as a Hollywood Producer (partners with the legendary Mary Pickford), to becoming the '60s radical "coffeehouse priest" and best-selling author of Are You Running With Me, Jesus? and 29 other books, Boyd's story weaves through the volatile beginnings of the Freedom Movement, the contentious eruptions against the Vietnam War, and current struggle for social, income and marriage equality. The June 7 event -
held on the eve of what would have been his 92nd birthday - will be an afternoon of celebration, surprise guests, music, humor and intimate recollections from Boyd's family and friends. Also featured at this event will be a special sneak preview of major scenes from the upcoming documentary "Disturber Of The Peace," on which Boyd and author/activist Mark Thompson, his partner of more than three decades, have worked for several years. Already a "Festival Favorite" at the Palm Springs Cinema Diverse Film Festival, the film features interviews with Lily Tomlin, Peter Yarrow, Holly Near, Don Bachardy and Tom Hayden, along with an eclectic collection of artists and activists. The event will be hosted by Boyd's husband, Mark Thompson, along with Mary Bruno (wife of Bishop Jon Bruno of the Diocese of Los Angeles).) Information and reservation information is here. Episcopal preschool in San Marino honored in local poll St. Edmund's Nursery School, a ministry of St. Edmund's Episcopal Church, San Marino, was recently voted the "most highly regarded preschool program in the San Gabriel Valley" for the third consecutive year in an online poll conducted by the San Gabriel newspaper group. Church to Convert Water-Guzzling Lawn Into Parklike Grounds For Community Enjoyment
In the 1960s, Saint Michael & All Angels Episcopal Parish Church in Corona del Mar landscaped 50,000 square feet of land the way most things were landscaped back then - with a grassy lawn dotted with non-native trees.Now, as church members look to a golden anniversary celebration in 2017, they are converting their water-hungry grounds into a more ecological, California-friendly landscape. And they hope community members will stop by and enjoy their new orchards and meadows. Read more here.

 Van Nuys church will sponsor health fair

 Youth invite all to place flags on veterans' graves in Riverside
The Program Group on Youth and Young Adults and Saint John's Church, La Verne, invite the diocesan community to join them in placing flags on the graves of veterans and their families at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside 92518 on Saturday, May 23, Memorial Day weekend. Participants will gather at the first circle from the main entrance at 10 a.m. to place flags and then gather at the Medal of Honor Memorial at 11 a.m. to pray for the United States of America, its veterans, the victims of war and its enemies. Many other faith communities, civic groups and Boy Scout/Girl Scout troops will be there as well. Conference will 'seize an alternative' to explore foundations for 'ecological civilization'
Nearly 1,000 presenters from some 30 countries and as many as 80 areas of specialty will come together in Claremont Thursday - Friday, June 4 - 7 for an ambitious trans-disciplinary conference on behalf of the planet. Titled "Seizing an Alternative: Toward an Ecological Civilization," the conference focuses on the big ideas that matter for a thriving biosphere. Attendees can join working groups to explore the foundations needed for an ecological civilization. Speakers will include environmental leaders including Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org; Vandana Shiva, Indian eco-activist, physicist, and feminist sustainability and social justice expert; and Sheri Liao, China's leading climate activist. Other participants will include theologian John B. Cobb, Jr.; Herman Daly, father of eco-economics; eco-agriculture pioneer Wes Jackson; and leading thinkers in religion and theology such as Harvey Cox, Brian McLaren, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Joerg Rieger, cutting-edge artists, scientists, and many others. The conference will be held on the campuses of Pomona College and Claremont School of Theology. Seminar will focus on healing tradition The Rev. Mike Flynn of Freshwind Ministries and Ken Fish of Kingdom Fire Ministries will present "The Emergence of the Modern Healing Tradition, a two-day seminar on Friday, June 26 (beginning at 7 p.m.) and Saturday, June 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1450 W. 7th Street, San Pedro 90732. Flynn, who is rector of St. Jude's Episcopal Church, Burbank, and Fish will lead participants in a weekend of hands-on learning. According to the event announcement, "These two teachers have over 50 years of combined experience in healing ministries. Come hear a brief history of healing ministry, learn more about the emergence of the modern healing tradition, and receive practical training on how to do healing ministry." Foster Care Project Art Show and Sale
