St. A's 5k celebrates 150 years of ministry

St. Athanasius Church, Los Angeles, continued the celebration of its 150th year of ministry in Los Angeles with a 5k walk/run on May 2. The route began at the Merced Theater near Olvera Street, built on the site of the first Episcopal services read in the city, and continued to the five historic locations of St. Athanasius' Church and St. Paul's Cathedral (the two congregations stem from the same initial parish and eventually reunited in 1992). Above: One walking group pauses across Figueroa Street from the site of St. Paul's Cathedral (1924-1980) where the office tower Figueroa at Wilshire now stands. Above left, another group, led by Bishop Suffragan Mary Glasspool (second from left) runs the same course. Participants raised $2,200 to benefit St. Athanasius' food bank program.
