Jon Bruno upon his retirement in 2018, held its first meeting Feb. 10 and began to organize its work. Refugee children Mental health, legal professionals needed to assist refugee children
As part of the diocese's ongoing response to the child refugee crisis, the Program Group on Global Partnership is helping local social service agencies recruit volunteers in the fields of mental health counseling and law. "Although no longer in the headlines, the child refugee crisis is still with us," said Troy Elder, bishop's legate for global partnership. "It has simply moved from border to the courtroom." Bilingual volunteer mental health professionals in private practice are needed immediately, both to assist with psychological evaluations related to the children's court cases, where proof of trauma is often required, and for longer-term courses of treatment. In addition, California-licensed attorneys are needed to represent children pro bono in state-court proceedings and as guardians ad litem. To volunteer or for more information, contact Sara Acharya, JD, MSW, at [email protected].

Corpus ChristiTheater troupe to present Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi in performance at Cathedral Center
The Cathedral Center of St. Paul in Echo Park will present Terrence McNally's award winning and controversial
Corpus Christi on Saturday, March 7, 4 - 11 p.m. in a performance by 108 Productions. "Very rarely does a play come along that challenges our understanding of Christ's love in a way that expands it and that through it our capacity to love is also expanded," said the Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. "Presenting experiences like this is one of the ways that we remind God's children, all of them, that they are loved by God and welcomed in the church," he added. Corpus Christi depicts Jesus as a gay man living in modern-day Texas "as a metaphor for how inclusive love for all people is not only right, but possible," according to the performance announcement. On the same day, audiences will also be able to experience the behind-the-scenes story of the production with the screening of the critically acclaimed documentary "Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption."
