Youth volunteer training meeting set Deanery assemblies continue
Diocesan Convention will be held on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 - 7 at the Ontario Convention Center. The convention will continue the theme "Seeds of Hope: Serving Together in Abundant Vineyards," introduced at last year's meeting.
Convention youth volunteer training set for Nov. 16 Generations of young people of the diocese have discovered the workings of the church by participating in the official youth presence at the annual meeting of Diocesan Convention . The Program Group on Youth and Young Adult Ministries invites young people in high school (grades 9 - 12) to volunteer at the convention. The youth fulfill a number of essential roles, including security at the doors, staffing the microphones, distributing and collecting ballots, and generally keeping the meeting running. As they do so, they meet bishops, clergy and lay leaders, work with young people from all over the diocese and learn how they can begin to take their own places in the wider church. Young people who will take part in convention must attend a training meeting on Saturday, November 16, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Cathedral Center of St. Paul, 840 Echo Park Avenue, Los Angeles 90026. The training is mandatory for youth who are volunteering at convention. Transportation help is available for those living at a distance from the Cathedral Center. A $75 charge for each youth volunteer helps to cover the cost of hotel rooms for Friday night and meals and snacks during the convention. Limited scholarship assistance is available. Youth volunteers will be supervised and chaperoned throughout the convention.
