Laguna Beach priest honored for work among the homeless The Rev. Colin Henderson has been named a Villager of the Year by Village Laguna, a non-profit dedicated to preserving and enhancing the village atmosphere of Laguna Beach. Henderson earned this honor through his tireless advocacy for a compassionate and constructive approach to homelessness in Laguna Beach. He arrived in Laguna in 1985 after working 25 years as an Anglican priest in England. At St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Laguna Beach, he led a group of residents in establishing a program to provide temporary shelter and services for homeless people. By 1988 this had evolved into what is now the Friendship Shelter and Henderson became its first executive director. Since then, the shelter has expanded from 18 to 32 beds and added a 24-bed transitional facility, Henderson House, in San Clemente. A celebration will take place at a garden party on Saturday, Oct. 5, 4 - 7 p.m. at a location in Laguna Beach. Tickets are $85 per person. For information, location and reservations, contact Meg Monahan at monahan.shops@gmail.com or 949.235.4467.
