Minigrants

This year HSA has budgeted $2,000 for minigrants to support local and regional haiku-related events and activities. Organizers of the four national quarterly meetings already have automatic allotments of $200 apiece for these conferences; the purpose of the minigrants is to make funds available for other meetings, workshops, and educational outreach (for example, this past month we awarded minigrants to pay the conference fees for the four HSA panelists who represented us at the American Literature Association meeting in Washington, D.C.). To apply for a minigrant, simply write a paragraph describing what you want it for, and tell how much you are requesting. Send this to me or to any member of the Executive Committee. Approval is decided by a majority vote of the EC. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me or another EC officer.

(Please note: I'll be traveling out of country, away from e-mail, May 31-June 23). Take care ... and happy haikuing!

UPCOMING RIPPLES
DELAYED

Due to recent illness and the slow recovery therefrom, the editor of the HSA Newsletter, Adrienne Christian, announces that the next issue of Ripples will be delayed until August 1, 2014. She is, therefore, also extending the deadline for submission of articles for the newsletter to July 1, 2014.

She asks for and appreciates your patience in this matter. We all wish her a speedy recovery.

CRADLE OF AMERICAN
HAIKU FESTIVAL 4
AND
QUARTERLY MEETING

HAIKU SOCIETY OF AMERICAN MEETING

The joint meeting will be held July 25-27 in Mineral Point, WI. Registration will begin at 2:00 Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday morning. Registration fee is $45.00. One of the readings will feature haiku written by them. They will each be making a presentation, will lead a panel discussion and a short critique session.

Some of the workshops and presentations will be: Photographic Haiga; Polishing Your haiku for Publication; Teaching Haiku (this will be geared towards workshop teaching); Brooks Books: Celebrating Four Decades of Haiku; Oral Interpretation of Haiku; Kukai; Between BAsho and Ban'ya (bypassing Barthes: A new Brand of Haiku; Newku For Old? Sunday morning will feature a Gingko walk followed by a reading of the haiku inspired by the walk.
